You'll work with your dealer to submit your order to the factory. At the end of this process you should receive an order preview or DORA, confirming the options you've selected. This isn't a contract, so be sure to get your dealer to agree to pricing up front or you'll get screwed later.
The order bank for model year 2022 is already open, so there's no reason your dealer shouldn't be able to help you place an order now. It can take a couple of weeks to get the order confirmation email from Ford, but this just means you've joined a very, very long line.
From there, you'll be waiting for a production scheduling date, then a build date and VIN, built confirmation, and shipping notice!
