As the title says I’m ordering a BL non-SAS auto 2DR.

I’m torn between the two engines because I would be stuck with the 4.46 gears with the non-SAS and I plan to go to 37s in the future.

According to the dealer the 2.7l could be a build constraint so I’m kind of against it considering orders not built this year won’t be carried over.

I believe the perfect compromise would be to have a 2.7l with the 4.46 gears to make up for the torque difference in gears.

I already have a 2.3L manual BD and I think It’s peppy enough and rock crawls great but no 37s on that one so wouldn’t know.

What do you guys think?

Also unpopular opinion I think the 2.7l sounds kind of odd with an exhaust. Weirdly enough I think the 4 cyl sounds better.

If it was build constraint , and I was going to modify as you're considering, I would just get the 2.3 and the Ford Performance tune. It would be cheaper overall and you're only losing out on 15ftlbs torque and you keep the warranty.

Personally, if I were planning to jump to 37s, I'd go with the 2.3 manual to get the 4.70 gears.

To many people got the little 4 banger, realized it was underpowered then had to get a performance tune to increase it, that forced them into premium gas. Just get the 6 and be happy.

I have the 2.7 BL, no SaS but I do have a fully built aftermarket from Fabtech. I also run 37's.
I have the Ford tune as well, turbosmart dual valve, and soon a Injen Cai. I also have a Magnaflow exhaust. Lol just read my sig.

IMO get what works for you. I would get the 2.7. That's what I did. the 2.3 is not bad, but a 4 banger is a 4 banger.

If buying the auto trans and planning on 37” tires definitely the 2.7L. I would recommend SAS to get the 4.70 gears and the quick step to 37’s.

From what I've researched the difference between 4.46 & 4.7 is very minimal (~5% difference). Have to remember that lower trim levels have even lower gearing. Then it might become a conundrum; with the lower gearing on those types of builds.

Personally the 4.46 gearing on 33s is a little overagressive at times with the 2.7.
