Others will chime in. But I’m sure less capable vehicles are driving around your area in the winter. In my opinion yes. Just because I believe a 4wd should have all the options within reason and budget to take full advantage of being a 4wd.

I've spent 55 years four wheeling, mostly with no locker and did great. Then I got a Rubicon with both and got cocky and stuck some. The rear was real nice to have, the front didn't add much marginal performance. Now the Bronco. With the ifs at least one is essential, these things love to go on three or even two wheels. The front would sure be nice, but I cheaped out and just got the rear. I will say, it keeps me from getting over confident and makes me drive smarter. The rear is an "easy button" the front may be a trouble maker, but would nice to have if you pretended you didn't have it 99% of the time.

Lockers help you get stuck out further.

I agree with "no" - you don't need any locker at all honestly, but it's a nice cheat feature. Even at that, the front is much less useful than the rear (and much more likely to break stuff unintentionally, especially in snow).

You don’t need one (front) for what you are describing

I regret not optioning the Sasquatch package. I could get myself into more trouble if I had a front locker and the bigger front axle. Oh well… more money to spend down the line

I use the rear the most, but it's really nice turning both on & just walking up the obstacle your buddies were struggling on. I call it my easy button.

For snow I'd also consider a set of those 18in wide Icelandic tires.

When it comes to using a front locker, there is a learning curve, and it can get expensive.

I didn't like the way my Bronc Rap was looking at other inferior trim models or the way it teased Jeep owners as we passed them going uphill on the Himalayan trails in Nepal. I therefore elected to vasectomy-off my Front/Rear lockers, including the middle locker for good measure. Mechanic asked if I needed the Trail Turn Assist and I boldly said, "I don't plan on turning back around, so hack that off as well..."

Good riddance to all that tech! It's not like I wanted to buy the Most Advanced Factory Off Road Vehicle in existence ....
