Speed limit reader

The Bronco does not have speed sign reading, no question about it. If you have ever driven a Ford with the advanced co-pilot stuff, it is unmistakable. It sucks because its an awesome feature that works great, and the Bronco has all the hardware to do it. There is a thread on this forum where some trailblazers have figured out most of the Forscan settings to enable the intelligent features like stop and go ACC, lane centering, and speed sign reading, all of which we dont have.

I've driven everything that Ford offers. I've noticed no difference in the way my speed sign recognition works compared to any other vehicle.

That being said, it is possible the workshop manual is wrong. But I've never once came across any information or training that said speed sign recognition was based off of GPS instead of the IMPA for any Ford vehicle.

I don’t have a front camera. So I’m pretty sure it’s GOD telling me the speed limit on my screens. But seriously why would Ford go thru the expense of developing a camera to read road signs when it’s built into your GPS?

You have to use intelligent adaptive cruise control for the feature, on vehicles that have co-pilot assist plus or 2.0 or whatever its called. What shows on the dash comes from GPS unless your using intelligent adaptive cruise option. Like the speed limit in highway construction zone by my house, Bronco still tells me speed limit is 75 when there are 55 signs posted every half mile. My wifes Expedition sees the 55 and shows 55.

Fascinating. I always assumed it was coming from Waze or whatever. Noticed a week or so ago on a country type road it wasn't showing speed limit and wondered about it. Happened a few times. Now I know. No signs!

Every Bronco is equipped with a front camera (top of the windshield) We aren't talking about the radar cruise control module.

No lane centering yet AFAIK.

Speed sign reading seems hit or miss.

There are even discrepancies between Carplay and the built in GPS map data. I can see different speed limits in areas depending if I have Carplay on or not, so the system has the ability to pull from multiple sources.

Ford didn't go through that expense. Ford bought a camera module from a supplier that will recognize, among other things, traffic signs.

Using the camera to recognize signs is better than GPS because GPS is a static database that is out of date the moment it is published.

I have a weird one.My speed sign reader works fine on all major highways like interstates going north and south.But going on anything else it defaults to 30 mph.East west works fine.Have an appointment for the dealership in a week.Anyone else having the issue?

I've noticed that mine does a great job of recognizing signs when it is a cloudy day but basically doesn't work when it is a bright, sunny day.

Mine will pull the correct speed limit in some areas without me ever passing a sign or update before I've gotten to the sign, and on other roads will display an incorrect or no number at all despite having passed multiple obvious signs.

Huh, TIL I guess.

Amusingly, mine is almost always incorrect or simply not displaying anything. Or when it does display something, once I go into nav mode with google maps, it just shuts it off anyways. Because once you're navigating, who cares about speed limits!

*edit* based on @AK SNO RIDER 's post, too. it is 10000% wrong in a construction zone. even with speed limit signs that are 3-4x bigger than normal, and posted right next to the road, it will always default to whatever the normal speed limit is for that particular road

Yeah, HAS to be a combination at least. Way too often I see my nav updating before any sign and I wonder how they do all this so well?
AND in construction zones, nuttin'!! So much for sign recognition....

I guess I just don't pay attention too it often enough. The few times I have seen it change were right at a sign. I'll watch it more often because it seems pretty obvious from everyone elses examples that the workshop manual is obviously wrong.
