Only 1 way to install it. Unless they put the velcro on the wrong side. Must have been a design change.

Ahh... no,
the front flap goes under the hooks and the middle goes under the cross brace if your velcro is on the wrong side then someone at the factory was having a Monday... give them a call.

I'll go ahead and try, but i won't hold my breath
This is Mike, if your hooks are under the nylon strip it’s because it’s a very early version. We changed to hooks on top for better aerodynamics.
Is this what you’re talking about?
I’m happy to help.

Thanks. Do you think you could grab the hardtop handles through the mesh to open and close? I saw an old video for alienshades do this for the rear handles on the front panels.
I really want to keep a sunshade installed under the hardtop permanently.
You probably could but you'd definitely have to take off a couple of the bungees and it would probably be quicker/easier just to take it off fully. Because most of the bungees are either a hook or loop it takes about 2-3 minutes (4 if it's been a while and I need to look at the install manual quick) to put it on and only about a minute to take it off. I do take the 4 thumb screw posts out on the cargo side when I put my hardtop back on in the fall. I'm not sure what the clearance is there between the roll bar and the hardtop and don't feel like chancing it. And actually, now that I think of it, I want to say the front most set of thumb screws is right around where the top bolts for the rear hardtop shell attaches to the roll bar.

Great thread with lots of good info…thanks OP for posting this! I too have been on the edge of purchasing the jtop shade, (looks quality and their 4th of July sale was very tempting), but can’t get past the Velcro. My usage would only be for the hottest 3 summer months as I prefer the complete open air and not wanting to leave it permanently installed. Being retired, having an enclosed garage, and living in the CA central coast’s (mostly) mild weather allows me to run around most of the time with top off. Had not come across the Spiderweb top and It appears to be the best option for my needs. Between the Spiderweb and my Harkin Hoister finally have my top situation all worked out, cheers😎

I would stay clear of JTops. 12 month warranty and when it tears at the seam after 14 months, you are SOL. The front flap pops up all the time when driving, hence why it tore.

This is Mike from JTops. This is a very early version of the shade. The front edge was redesigned so the hooks are on top.
As far as the tear in the nylon front edge it is a very rare occurrence. I have only seen it a few times and it has never happened to the newer version as far as I know. We eliminated the vertical stitching by moving the hooks back to the top.

Yep. I must have the eary version. I emailed and was offered 15% off which being out of warranty is fair. But 15% still puts it more than others with a 10 year warranty.

We understand but you get what you pay for.
We can make a bungee top for $40 bucks but that’s not what we do. Replacing a cheap product is easy, Chinese grommets and bungees are cheap.
We have been making tops for 14 years that are legendary for quality and performance. We don’t compete for lowest possible price. We focus on performance and premium customer service. Just like taking the time on a Saturday afternoon trying to help answer questions and resolve issues.
Thanks for your feedback.
If I can be of further assistance please let me know.

A 1 year warranty is not good enough for the price of this, and i think he offered 20% discount for 4th of july. At least match that for the new and improved design.

This is making spiderwebshade and alienshade the top 2 contenders for me with 10 year warranty.

That’s fine. The great new is you have a choice. I think either is an option for you if your main concerns is a 10 year warranty rather than quality and performance.

The good news is whatever choice you make the shade will keep you and your interior protected from the sun.

By the way both of the tops you mention have to be removed to install the hard top.
