I'm nowhere near Maryland but I read his post about the 3.49% interest rates at Tower Federal Credit Union. Did a bit more reading and saw for a $35 donation fee you can become a member, so I did!

Silver lining in every cloud. Using this rate for two vehicles and spreading the word to others.

Thanks

Did you just apply for the loan and have to do the donation to get approval? And did you bring a draft to buy or refinance?

How long was the process for you? I also did the donation and applied for an account 2 weeks ago and other than the auto-email haven't heard anything.

Update: posted a message this morning via the portal provided in initial auto-email from TFCU and got an actual response about 90 minutes later asking for some basic KYC ID stuff which I promptly uploaded. I think my app had just fallen in between some virtual cracks, seems to be back on track now.

I made the donation, what were your next steps after that? Can you just go in an apply for loan afterwards?

Hi guys it's been a long day! I am didn't expect this reply. Just finishing my day,
But I'll get everything up to date soon for you. You don't have to wait before. To get started on the process, as I called and spoke to a representative on day one. You can start the process the moment you do your donation. Simply go to the site and go to the second of three drop-downs and select Tower foundation and start the membership process.

It's getting late and tomorrow I will do a tutorial on how to get the membership enrollment started. Looks as if they are a smaller credit Union and for them, as it seems to be for me they may be a bit overwhelmed with their membership enrollment explosion. I apologize for getting back to you guys so late as I was not expecting this type of response but I will get back to you tomorrow with the process that I was told by an actual member. It worked for me so it should work for you.
Thanks

I tried that CU, here is my tale of woe.

Read over the website, saw the way to "donate" and become a member. Did it, gave the documents requested online and...... you have to be geographically local to be a member. Waste of time and money. They said I had to physically stop by a location with my ID, no luck as I'm in the mid-west currently, no way around it.

Found a CU local to where I was/am and got 4%, glad I did the next Monday their rate went up to 4.5%.

Crazy that a good auto loan rate has almost tripled since last April.

Poster below you says he needed to stop by a location with his ID. Did you need to do this?

I'm interested in this answer as well. On the website it says they need to verify ID, but it doesn't say it needs to happen in person.

I just did the donation and online application. A 2.99% interest rate may be worth flying to BWI to give my info in person at a local branch.

Make sure to go to the Arundel Mills location (7065 Arundel Mills Cir). I had an appointment at the Laurel branch (7901 Sandy Spring rd) for an Auto Loan Specialist, left on my lunch break and when I got there there was no one there to assist me. After calling a few locations, was able to speak to someone at the Arundel Mills location. From walking in to getting assistance with my auto loan, I had great customer service there and plan to get serviced there if I ever need to go in again, even though its an extra 20 min drive from the Laurel location.

Sorry, forgot to mention. When they were running my credit they said I was lucky because their rates were going to jump today! There are still other great credit unions, just takes a bit of leg work online. What I did as I was awaiting my build was google a list of local credit unions check their website for rates, and join. (Make sure you check when the rates on the page were last updated!)

I'm waiting to hear back from my back up Democracy FCU
https://democracyfcu.org/ currently showing 2.6%

Another great one is Commonwealth one
https://www.cofcu.org/ 2.24%-5.29% depending on term

Alot of them are based on your location.

Looks like you're based out of Texas, there were a few good credit unions listed from older posts. You can see what some other B6G members in TX selected and see if the rates changed.
