It won't matter, in a few years, the iPhone will unlock, start, etc. No one will carry the key.
Already available on Lincoln. Ford can't be far behind.

Key fobs pointless design these days. You never take it out of your pocket for anyone to see it. All the trims have standard keyless go. I can't remember the last time I took out my Mustang fob out of my pocket when out and about. I probably never have.
i dont think the base model has keyless go

It's a running joke among JL owners. There's a meme. It's too big. There are hacks to make the metal key flip out less easily as it tends to deploy in your pocket (insert juvenile joke here). I do appreciate that it's meant to look like a jerry can and that there is a specific place to stow it between the cup holders. My gripe about fobs vs keys is that a fob needs a place. Dropping it in a cup holder feels sloppy and poorly planned. My favorite actually are the fob/key hybrids that you actually insert into a socket. The market seems to be going away from those though.

Why dont you leave it in your pocket?

I never use my keys any more. Either I use my phone or keyless entry I can care less what they look like.

Unpopular opinion: I would do some borderline innapropriate things to have a normal key like this again.

I could. Sometimes I do. If I'm driving home I'll leave the fob in the Jeep in my garage.
gotcha, to be clear I really wanted to know. I wasn't being snobby.

For some reason I don't leave my fobs in the car even when i park in the garage. I have no clue why

That's all my truck uses. I still like it more than pushing any buttons. My locks freeze up in the winter though...so i guess there's that

I always like the NC Miata's Smart Key. It was about the size and shape of a credit card and just a little thicker, so you could keep it in your wallet. Still had a little valet key integrated in to it, too.

I hate my wifes 2018 VW Tiguan. When I get out of a store and I hit unlock, it only unlocks the drivers door. Than I get frustrated and hit it 34593284059 more times in a vigorous fashion to make sure to pleases the car into unlocking the tailgate and other doors. How hard is it to unlock all doors with one touch. Grrrrr! :devilish:

Vote for an actual key, yes please.

I'll go half-way there with you icavedin. I would love an actual key for starting a car, or, even inserting and turning a key, and then hitting a START button (Ă  la my old s2000). But I'm not mourning the gradual extinction of key holes on doors.

Heh, our 2012 Ford has an actual key. This fob and autolock/unlock you speak of is pure wizardry.?‍♂

It has keyless entry and start. No keyholes anywhere on the doors.

The only keyhole I see is on the center armrest and glove box.
