Obviously you manually can turn off auto-start by pressing the button on the dash, but you have to do it anew every time you drive. However, I just tried Sport mode for the first time and noticed that Sport mode automatically keeps auto-start turned off.

Yeah, I discovered that a couple weeks ago. However, the Bronco asks if you want to remain in sport mode, and returns it to 4H (if you previously changed it to 2wd) every time you start the engine. If you don't hit "ok" on your steering wheel within 10 seconds of starting, it will put it back in normal mode.

You can plug a thingamajig into the trailer wiring and it will stay off indefinitely, or at least that used to work for their other models.

With my Ranger I plugged one of those cheap LED night lights into the outlet on the back of the console. It draws just enough power to trick the system. Cost: 3 bucks for two. The second one I'm saving for my Bronco (hoping it will work).

That installs under the dash, not in the trailer connection. Click the link and watch the video they have.
GTK! Thanks for that. Watching now.

Hmmm. Sport mode does not require 4HI nor automatically transfer to 4HI, if you are in 2WD when you turn on Sport.
