"Fortunately" for us here in the Puget Sound area our homeless drug epidemic has created a crime surge that has gotten to the point where police don't respond to property crimes or other non-violent incidents. So, if the cops take the time to ticket me for mud flaps....I'm a gonna be PO'ed!

The amount of tire poke I see on lowered old chevys around here in Central CA you would almost think it was mandatory, not illegal

This is why I like to use a local small business, who trusts the experience and research of others. This is 10" tires on 6" wheels, and it's done all day every day in the Cruiser world. And this aftermarket wheel is even 1/2" wider than a stock wheel that people mount 10" tires on:

I just called a dumb ass on the 6G reddit page because I warned someone (that knew nothing about anything tire / automotive) that their local tire shop is very likely going to not install 12 wide's on their 7.5 inch wheel.

I read this as: you can do it, just don't get caught
I know someone who has gone for over a decade not having a front plate in a state that requires it. He's never had an issue. I'm now three months doing same in a neighboring state, will see how it goes.

I use a good local owned shop. If I ask for advice, they offer it, otherwise they mount what I want. It’s just too easy to look at the tire manufacturer recommendations for wheel width. They also assume I know how large a diameter I can use on my vehicle.

Chain stores are best at replacing OEM with OEM.

And that was the issue. Tire Store employee could not believe Ford had put 315's on 8.5 inch rims even after he went out to the parking lot to confirm AND then had to look it up on line. He had been told in his training that this was a major safety issue, therefore not allowed. One can not argue with OEM.

Which is stupid because the tire manufacturer gives an acceptable width range for every tire they make. I can understand not doing it outside that range, but that should have been the first thing they looked at for that specific tire.

I avoid chain tire stores.

M/T Canyon's which are actually 9" in width with the K03's in 315 70 R 17.
That is terrific and you did white letters OUT to boot! Well done.

Stories like this are why I love my locally owned tire shop. I can sit and watch them cuss and install my tires if I want to. I can even help them wipe the cigarette ashes off the sidewalls and tread when they're done. Tip them a $20 and they'll open the Beer fridge for you.

The Stroppe looks FANTASTIC with that wheel/tire combo.

That setup could get a ticket in California, believe it or not.

:California Code, Vehicle Code - VEH § 27600.
No person shall operate any motor vehicle having three or more wheels, any trailer, or semitrailer unless equipped with fenders, covers, or devices, including flaps or splash aprons, or unless the body of the vehicle or attachments thereto afford adequate protection to effectively minimize the spray or splash of water or mud to the rear of the vehicle and all such equipment or such body or attachments thereto shall be at least as wide as the tire tread.

I just checked, and that setup is also illegal on Washington roads. Vehicle code reads the same and you can receive a $136 ticket for violating the Washington fender law.

As a WA resident I can tell you with full certainty that law enforcement here doesn’t care a bit about tire poke. Totally common sight is the F250 brodozers on 24” wheels with 2” tall sidewalls sticking 12” out beyond the fenders.

I feel sorry for those poor trucks, they didn’t ask to be embarrassed like that.
