@ADV Fiberglass bout to get real busy. Those color ones looking real good to some of you right about now at a "discount" huh?
LOL this isn’t an apt comparison when it’s piece by piece at the parts counter. Nothing makes ADV look like a buy.

Finally installed the hard top today. After figuring out the bimini was a PITA to try and do installed, it went bye bye. It's highly probable I'll not take the it off any further than the front two panels anyway. Brackets, remove soft top side window front attachment panels, a few bolts and done. Since I was built pre-prep package we're just going to plug the wiper hole in the glass once we find the right size. The next one will take about 45 minutes after the glass is glued in the cap.

Looks amazing! I feel really dumb for ordering a soft top with the assumption that I could just add a hard top for $700 later in since that’s all it cost when building lol. I had no idea it would cost thousand to add 😭

Lots of people will be joining you in that. So don’t feel too bad.

That’s why ADV’s hardtop price is not outrageous it’s just the cost of things today

I have to believe that Ford will offer a kit that has everything needed in one "box" that can be purchased and installed for $4K-$5K. The cap itself was in a huge crate, all the glass was sent in separate packages, etc. If this setup is more than $4K, it's going to be a hard sell.
Which is exactly what Ford wants. They have no interest in crating these things up and shipping them around the country in mass quantities. They will not make the price attractive to do so.

Awesome write up on the swap!

If you don’t feel like waiting for one of the sound deadening headliner kits, I’ve got one in stock at my shop. My dealer doubled the stock order for a friends piece, and it was cheaper to keep it than send it back

Thanks. can you estimate how much of your 10k cost was mitigated by the hard top prep kit? ADV is looking even better.

Dammit Phil!!!! I’ve been waiting nearly 2 months for my warranty claim hard top and here you go with a shiny new one!!!! Well done my friend. How’s the quality of the MIC these days?
It seems like a good one compared to some. Got 2 more here to do, one for a recall and one that came in with a stain from the factory. Will see if these are as good.

So I was a pre prep-kit build and only had to add the metal brackets and bolts that are above the a-pillar. Since none of the controls are there for rear defrost, or wiper there was no need for me to mess with that. Those two pieces were $125 and $155. Why, I don't know. They're just stamped steel.

I just want to clarify this post and those that don't know. I am a dealer and the top thing is obviously a big deal to everyone including our customers. Is this economically feasible to do at this point? Absolutely not. I did this as a test to see how the part ordering and availability would work as well as what it actually took to do an install on a pre prep build.

It's my belief that whatever Ford will end up offering as a "kit" in the future will not be $10K and if it is, shouldn't waste their time. Obviously my cost on this was much less but still close to what I've heard some of the ADV tops w/options are going for. Generally new model parts are more expensive at the outset than months or a year in. I've seen several Bronco parts come down in price since they showed up in the cat. last May.

You can call this a waste but again, I'm in a unique situation as a dealer than most as consumers. I do not spend money just to spend company money. It's done with the purpose of being able to provide a service and information to our customers and folks like yourselves and hopefully allows us to use what we've learned to sell more parts, service and vehicles. If someone told me they wanted this setup right now I'd do everything in my power to talk you out of it because I believe this is waaaaaaay too much $$ for what you get, plus a few of the parts aren't readily available. Maybe we'll be able to get a "kit" from Ford next year and if not, maybe we piece them together and offer our own.
