Is retail was $10k, what’s dealer cost approximately? Like 6-7?
Caveat to this. I'm using prices from 2 months ago and they may have gone up or down since.

If I used everything on the list I posted which would basically be everything less labor, tax and shipping, forum members who are registered on our site would pay right around $7,350. If we put the sound deadener in, glass, did the install it would probably be another $300.00 plus some materials. That would include soft top removal.

Again, 2D is going to be a lot cheaper since they don't have the middle panel. Tinted glass is more expensive than non and the pre prep people won't need the wiper motor or any of that stuff since it won't work. Take that stuff off and price goes down more.

I expect prices to come down more before Ford releases their kit but fairly sure the part numbers I posted for the major top components will be the numbers they would use in a "kit" since they have all the seals, hardware and latches already installed.

So I was a pre prep-kit build and only had to add the metal brackets and bolts that are above the a-pillar. Since none of the controls are there for rear defrost, or wiper there was no need for me to mess with that. Those two pieces were $125 and $155. Why, I don't know. They're just stamped steel.
Thanks again. Useful R&D info with facts.

Make a liar out of me....just looked at the depots and there are lots of the major components out there to do these. Prices are about the same as before but most of these have no sales restrictions. If you want to spend the $$ the major assemblies are out there. Glass and some of the other stuff may take a little time to come in since they are direct ship but they are available.

Nice write up.
I’m taking mine in today to get the 1.0 MIC swapped out for a 2.0. Was going to pry and see if they knew the cost range of the “kit” Ford sent them.
I’m kinda curious if Ford will do the same for a soft top kit. Was only a $1200 add past a hard top to get dual tops. Really wanted both.

Looking back, I have no idea how they could offer the dual top or even the MIC upgrade for what the up charge was compared to what the parts cost through normal channels. Something is majorly messed up somewhere. The cost gap shouldn't be this much.

@flip do you have any idea of when the "kit" will be available to buy?

Ford always has jacked up prices when it comes to individual parts vs kits, but sometimes you find a diamond in the rough.

Hanging out for patriot fastbacks…
If only it wasn't so hideous. the fast back is ok but the other one woof

This ^ Buying OEM parts from the parts counter through Ford is insanely expensive. We wanted the 20" wheels for the wife's explorer, the one we found had the 17s on it. Just for S&G looked them up through ford parts, they were like 400 per wheel.

Usually the Ford OEM markup is pretty high, if you know the good vendors, you can usually get them at 20-30% less to start, or sometimes you can cross reference the part and find it cheaper if its not associated with a premium model.

Disappointing to see that it is this much. I was hoping to add a hard top at some point (soon).

What about a Soft Top to Hard Top (w/prep kit) swap on two different Broncos?
Easy as it sounds or not?

The soft top came off in 10 minutes. The reverse should be easy but you might have to add the latch bracket for the first top drop stage.

What about the swap in regards to the Hard Top going on to the original Bronco that was Soft with factory Hard Top w/ prep kit?
