My 2.3 auto SAS 4 door got 1 mpg better on the highway with 93. Cost prohibitive. It does add 20 miles of range, helpful if traveling in remote areas.

Been running mostly 87 Octane from premium gas stations (i.e. Shell, Costco, etc.). Averaging just over 21mpg over 5,000+ miles. I can't see how Premium Octane is worth an extra $0.50/gal or $10/tank extra.

Has more to do with the power (+25Hp) you get from the Premium Fuel on the 2.3L. Getting another mile per gallon is an added bonus.

I live in Colorado so I'm maxed out at 91 octane around here, but that is all I run. I really haven't been concerned with fuel prices and didn't buy the Bronco to try and keep any sort of mileage. The Bronco is what I expected it to be... thirsty. It lives up to expectations.

Higher octane for heavy loads - towing, terrain, etc. I haven't gotten my 2.7L yet but might go all in for Premium at first. I read where it may not be good to change octane since the knock-sensors take some time to adjust. All specs from Ford are based on running premium.

premium actually doesn't have more power... just run what the book says. unfortunately in Nothern Colorado, there is not 89. you have to blend it yourself if you feel like it at the pump. X gallons of 91, X gallons of 85. PITA.
Correct there is the same amount of BTU's in one gallon of 87, 89, 91 or 93 but what you get is higher octane. Higher Octane means less chance of detonation and cooler temps. The engine senses this and allows slightly higher boost.

More boost, means more power....and sometimes these means that you don't need to downshift every hill. So....better gas mileage.

I've run both in mine. When I had the base wheel/tire setup, I could easily get the MPG the OP posted. Not so much with the 33s and my "enthusiastic" driving style. The truck does seem peppier and smoother on premium now that I've switched back. Most of the 6k miles I've put on it have been with premium gas.

There is certainly more power with the Premium Fuel. I have the 2Dr Manual and it was quite noticeable when I first switched to Premium. I am going to stick it out to at least 1000 miles on the Trip 2 timer.
This is true. I have run premium in my manual 2 door for 4300 miles and I noticed the miles to empty went up by 30 miles when using premium. But the butt Dyno was the greatest improvement and I only put the best in my baby lol

Is there any benefit of running ethanol free 89?
Seems that with manual it gets slightly less mileage than on 91.

Knock sensors react in milliseconds. Swap fuels all you want. Modern cars adjust on the fly.

I’m at almost 10K miles and run 87. Average is just under 21mpg in town, 23mpg on the highway. 4dr 2.3L.

with any ford ecoboost, the smaller the engine the more HP and torque you loose with regular fuel. The 2.7L I think is like 15hp you loose with regular fuel
