Has anyone else noticed this? I received my title in the mail for my 23 Bronco Wildtrak and the title shows Bronco Base as the model. I took title back to BMV and after an hour or better they told me that there was no Wildtrak listed for title purposes. They told me my registration would list the Wildtrak but the title didnā€™t have the Wildtrak option. This is Indiana. BMV said that is what the paperwork from my dealership had listed on it. WT???? Well anyway it is now being titled as a Bronco Advanced 4x4 2-door. Whatever that means. Anyone else have trouble with the title for Wildtrak? Might be a good idea to check.

Here in Vegas thats a good thing. When they look up the registration fee in the computer its some sort of average MSRP. My wildtrak is showing a MSRP of $37,240. I'll take it.

In MICHIGAN, you want the lowest base MSRP before options, that is what your plate/registration fee is based on.

Don't think it's a problem. My prior vehicles never listed a trim level.

What about the sales tax paid? Everything would be on the paperwork to take to BMV.

Not sure. If you trade a car in, that reduces the "price" of the new vehicle that you pay sales tax on; however, the DMV is still going to charge you the registration fee based on the MSRP that is attached to the vin.

They also need to see the sales tax paid on vehicle. Unless you pay it at BMV. Iā€™m my case they charged sales tax at dealership.

In most states, vehicle registration goes off of vehicle body codeā€”which is the same designation NHTSA uses for the VIN numbering system.

If you looked at the VIN of a Base with Sasquatch, and compared it to the VIN of a Wildtrak, youā€™d have no idea which trim it was because itā€™s all coded exactly the same: 2/4-door Advanced 4x4 (AWD) SUV.

That makes some sense. But Iā€™m wondering why the BMV would have a Badlands, Raptor, Heritage, and a few others listed that the title model could have on it? Doesnā€™t make sense.

Raptor and Heritage are both different body codes, so that makes sense.

Badlands is not, so thatā€™sā€¦ interesting. Wonder if itā€™s a weight thingā€”Badlands is the heaviest trim.

At my DMV there are 4 (wellā€¦ 7 technically because itā€™s split out by 3-door/5-door) designations, but again every state has slightly different DMVs/BMVs/DOTs.
  • 4x4 Base/Big Bend/Black Diamond/Outer Banks
  • AWD Base/Big Bend/Black Diamond/Outer Banks/Badlands/Wildtrak
  • Heritage
  • Raptor

Mine is the E5C 2-door. Looks like theyā€™re both Advanced 4x4ā€™s. Wow! Too much to try to figure out. At least itā€™s in my driveway now. šŸ˜ƒ

E5A and E5B are standard transfer case body codes
E5C and E5D are advanced 4x4 transfer case body codes
There are additional body codes for Heritage and Raptor for instance (I believe Everglades falls under the Heritage body code too - square fenders).

In the VIN number you have the following codes

Example 1FM / D E5C / P / X / M / L / A12345

Ford / Restraints* / Body Code / Engine / Ck code / Year / Plant / Sequence Number

* - Manual belts with driver and passenger frontal air bags and side inflatable restraint
(1st & 2nd row) and driver knee restraint

Positions 1-3 World Manufacturer Identifier
Position 4 Restraint System Type
Positions 5-7 Make, Car Line, Series, Body Type
Position 8 Engine Type - Displacement, Cylinders, Fuel Type, Manufacturer
and Horsepower
Position 9 VIN Check Digit (0-9 or X)
Position 10 Vehicle, Model Year
Position 11 Plant or Manufacturer
Positions 12-17 Numerical Sequence Number

You cannot determine the trim level or most options from the VIN number, however you can get all this information from the As Built data.

AL the same way. they also have a 'market value' for each year after that up to a certain age.
