I guess I must be a contrarian edgelord because I don't like the auto-start-stop LOL. If they would just make your last selection persistent (leave it on if you left it on, leave it off if you left it off, next time you start the car), we would all get along fine.
I'd be perfectly happy if they implemented the button the way BMW did.

And of course, never forced the "OK" screen.

if the feature saves only 0.1 MPG - over 15 million cars sold driving ~14,000 miles annualy is 21,000,000,000 gallons of gasoline not consumed each year.
It looks like they redid the math and the administrator of the EPA declared yesterday the technology is no longer going to be required by federal regulation (See Article). The flip side to the gas saved is that cars don’t start up quickly. That means it takes a couple of seconds for the engine to spring back to life when you take your foot off the brake when a red light turns green, it, delaying how many vehicles get through the light and increasing overall fuel consumption.

the funny part is that there's no actual 'regulation' to rescind.
auto makers are free to riff however they wish to achieve the CAFE goal.

rescinding the CAFE is a much bigger thing than the nothing burger that was announced on the former twitter

Agreed. Let the user set it and forget it. I don't want to push extra buttons or have my vehicle asking me for OKs whenever I start it.

Especially with the manual trans the ASS has caused aggrevation for some of my household members who drive it less and mistakenly think they killed the engine.

At first I did not like AS/S. But it became automatic to push the stop AS/S when I started it. If I forgot the engine shutting down at a stop would remind me.

There are some lights that I know I am going to be stopped at for a long time so I hit the AS/S button to engage it and the engine shuts down. When I know it is about time to go I just reach over and hit the AS/S button again to start the engine or just let up on the brakes a little and the engine starts without the vehicle moving forward.
All that may sound like a lot to do but it also has become automatic for me to do and does not bother me at all. I see no reason to complain about that.

Now, if I can just get my Bronco out of the Ford dealer shop so I can drive it, I would be much happier.

Here’s another thing that annoys me to no end. The A pillar vent. If I select Floor on the HVAC - most of the air comes out the A pillar and I get almost nothing on the floor or back seats. Another good one is your GOAT mode getting reset every time you start the vehicle up.

that really annoys me, just like having to push that button does every time.

the biggest difference - some of these things people go “yeah that sucks” and we all just commiserate in our shared experience, others people get vehemently upset and say I’m killing the planet and too lazy to push a button

Auto stop start isn’t worth the mileage gain. For the tenths of a mile in CAFE fuel gain it adds dreaded weight and cost to every vehicle. At the least each vehicle now carries an extra battery or two adding unacceptable cost ( price a new battery) and they are not light. The system adds vehicle inefficiency when sitting in traffic as it slows start up and is a drain on air conditioning leaving the occupant's uncomfortable. Now no manufacturer will get rid of this as it’s engrained in auto development at all OEMs. Thank heaven for programs that allow it to be disconnected.

Start/stop technology: where your car dies at every red light so companies get a climate participation trophy. EPA approved it, and everyone hates it, so we’re fixing it.

Bronco has a stupidASS. My wife's commuter has a smartASS (once you push that annoying button, it stays off forever if that's what you want). But Bronco has another stupid "feature" that I don't like. I drive almost exclusively in "sport" mode. I like the way it shifts the tranny better than in any other mode, and the stupidASS is automatically off, but.........every time I restart it, I have to fiddle with the Goat to find the "sport" mode. It doesn't remember the last setting. Stupid goat. I don't like fluffing the goat much.

@VAtruck posted, "It looks like they redid the math and the administrator of the EPA declared yesterday the technology is no longer going to be required by federal regulation."

Manufacturers developed it in order to conform to fleet CAFE dictates, which were formulated because of the "global warming" um..."hypothesis." Fewer and fewer people by into this belief, and fewer and fewer people are willing to give up the living standards to comply. So the political climate has changed, and the current administration apparently feels it's an low-cost political giveaway.
