Changing the oil and filter at 500-1000 miles has nothing to do with the actual oil, it’s to get all the metal shavings out due to tight engine tolerances...not beating on it the first 1000 miles is meant to limit the extent of that happening too much that it will cause damage. If you actually follow the break-in procedure you shouldn’t need to change the oil early, but it’s $50, why not do both

I once bought a new ZX6R and found recommendations to flog the absolute piss out of it instead of following the break in period. I'm not sure if I got the benefits they claimed but there didn't seem to be any ill effects afterwards.

Who else will be doing first oil and filter change at 500-1000 miles?
Changing the oil early on a new vehicle does not allow for proper break in.
Drive it like you stole it it needs to know whos boss and there will be no quarter givin.

This is the manual for the 2019+ Ford Ranger with the 2.3L engine. Stated break in period is ~1,000 miles. I would expect about the same for the 2.7L but did not look it up.

No lock outs though. Your vehicle is unlocked from day 1. Source: Just bought a Ranger.

Depends on their definition of “too fast”!
Kind of leaves it open to interpretation.

Until I saw the previous page, I was curious how long the clutch needed before broken in. Never had a brand new manual, always bought used

The whole concept is just kind of made up. Every brand has their own rules and I don’t think 98% of people have ever even read their manuals to see this.

My new Audi doesn’t want an oil change until 10K miles. Sales staff even warned against it.
Ford Ranger is about that as well.

These newer synthetic oils are game changers, apparently.

I will be using a fuel treatment from day one. Lubrication of fuel system will help the longevity of the turbos. I like Opti-Lube gas enhance fuel additive. (Opti-Lube.com)

It is the effect of manufacturing processes that result in the correct tolerances being achieved at the time of manufacture, better oil chemistry, better oil filtration, and better oiling system design and engine temperature control, less unburned fuel dilution in the crankcase, etc.

Science has improved the breed.

Back in the days of CarCraft and Hot Rod magazine the thought was to go from a stop to about 3500 rpms and then let off and allow the car to decelerate back to idle and reparations several times. This was meant to seat the pistol rings in the cylinders. When I built engine I always did it and never had issues down the line.

You do know the fuel doesnt come in contact with the intake side of the turbo, right? You'll only be creating more carbon build up with that extra oil being burned up in the combustion chamber, and flug through the exhaust side of the turbo. Great for the guy to rebuild the turbo, bad for your wallet.
