Had a 1986 Ramcharger where the back seats were "not removable" (they had a fold and tumble thing). Previous owner welded the mounting nuts to the underside of the floor and viola, removable with one wrench in about 5 minutes. Getting that heavy pig out and storing it, a different question.

A couple thoughts.
Yes, I would absolutely want the shelf and tailgate, but that doesn’t appear to happen.

no, I’m not second guessing the Bronco.
My Mini Cooper back seat lay flat, but has almost the exact 4” drop. It really isn’t too much of a bother (for the things I carry).

candidly, I just want the Bronco to be easier to load/unload my golf clubs than my Mini Cooper and I will be in love.

So question to those considering the two door....

With that 4" step from the folded rear seats to the cargo area that they seem "solve" in the 4 door by offering the slide out tailgate, would you rather just lose that 4" of extra vertical height in the cargo area and have them just raise the cargo floor to be even with the 2nd row folded down instead of the uneven layout now?
yes that would have been wonderful.

I'm pretty sure that it is well established and official that the 4 door rear seats do not fold "flat" as you define it. They fold "flat" as ford defines it. In this case, there is a 4" step.
OOPs, a picture is worth a thousand words, I'm wrong again!

Yeah that’s how I’m reading it too, until somebody can prove otherwise.
Didn't the lead designer say that you can take the Bronco apart with a wrench in an hour? I'm paraphrasing and I know that he was being hyperbolic, but it seems like a stretch to imagine that it's going to be more than a 20 minute job to yank the seats.

Poor design and planning on Ford’s part, but aftermarket will cash in on delete options.

it’s hard to see so much right about the Bronco, and then some obvious wrongs. Makes you wonder how many decisions were made behind a desk.
I agree on this one, the 2door is already limited on space and most that want to haul back seat passengers will get the 4door, the seats need to be removable. I hope @mrlevine can confirm that we can at least unbolt them and have a fairly flat surface

Wait! Is that as far down as the back seats go in the 2 door? I can’t get my dog box in there at all! I seriously won’t buy this truck if I can’t get my dog in it.

They invented the idea after all with the first van.
However, those particular guys are probably pushing up daisy's by now.

Having studied this a bit, let me share. The DESIGN is:

Rear seat bottoms rotate upwards to come flat against the front seats

Seat backs fold down better than this pic - but not flat (reminds me of bill clinton saying, 'kinda depends on what the definition of "is" is)

Headrests rotate to stick up like a pair of sore thumbs
