Translation...motors we built blew up in the field, but it wasn't our f#ckup. Parts we installed failed because they were junk. Now that we have better parts we are all good!
No matter how Ford wants to spin it, it is Ford's fault, it's...
  • Ford's Supplier
  • Ford's Source Inspection
  • Ford's Receiving Inspection
Ford lacking in any of these three, it's Ford's fault for not doing a better job of sub-contract management.

Just picked up my 12/13 blend date bronco two days ago. 120 miles thus far. Based on what we're seeing, built December 2nd 2021 - I'm hoping I'm out of the danger zone?

Dec 2 AA Is outside of the previous last AA build date of November 14 AA to Nov 22 AB as this shows there was not a cut over on a prior single day. This date shows this AA being built after an AB on Nov 22 . Out of the danger zone ? We still do not know what the AB changes reflect????
Regards,
George

I have to say this at this point...you guys sometimes act like "Ford" is just one person. Ford is a VERY large corporation with thousands of people working together. Success has many fathers, failure is always an orphan. Or as they taught us in Ford training center..."it always goes back to whomever has the deepest pockets". Beating Ford up over this is a dry hole, and better yet, you should understand there are strong political forces at both Ford and FCA that would like to see the Wrangler and the Bronco die and stay buried...why else did we get the sport?

AA AB, dropped valve, broken timing chain, bad valve keepers, Jullian date, Lima plant, don't drive too far from home, dealer/mechanic Delema's, 87/93 Octane, proper break-in, Wow I really did not sign up for all this shiet, we are all going to need some AA meetings after all of this!
Wait...someone already started an AA support group and didn't invite me? Which SOB was it?

I've always worked for large corporations, I understand how they work. Collectivly, Ford includes all employees, Farley and the typical bureaucrat corporate culture. That collective, along with bottom line profits, most likley all but eliminated source and receiving inspection, let alone batch testing.

Be thankful the next time you fly on an airplane that those are standard practices and procedures in the aerospace business.

Some people have asked the purpose of this thread - a few reasons come to mind

- provide centralised repair reference for owners w blown engine
- discussion forum - try to figure out problems w 2.7L
- warn owners so they can be prepared

Then another major goal - Recall - or Replacement Campaign -
- gather enough examples - encourage Ford to issue recall - save others the trouble of blown engines out on the road, or in the wild
- at least issue recall for ebd's in the two failure ranges so far:
- 1st range: ~ 21159 thru 21181 - (23 days)
- 2nd range: ~ 21207 thru 21224 - (18 days)
- and prob wider

As mentioned earlier -
- the concentration of engine build-dates (see '2-month Containment' range below) looks 'known problem' w defective parts, which Ford is certainly aware - and they have at least 10x more data than we have in B6g
- w ebd's accumulating in these narrow date-ranges, this has to be a known problem which Ford could fix w recall, or replacement campaign
- when they're all bunched together like this, there's no way these are just random failures

From an informed source -
- At this point, the simplest and least costly Ford option is get a ton of heads made and issue recall for the affected owners. It will be a whole lot cheaper both in total repair cost and rental . .

Ford Bronco 2.7L blown engine failure list . . 68 so far [Updated: December 13, 2022] hist - Blown 2.7L Stats - 2022.Feb.02

Some people often remind that we cannot measure failure % accurately from B6g data - failure % estimates would be more speculative

But here's what we can say guaranteed - now w 24 ebd's in B6g tracking - these histograms prove the following -
- w ebd's accumulating in these narrow date-ranges, this has to be a known problem which Ford could fix w recall, or replacement campaign
- when they're all bunched together like this, there's no way these are just random failures

Note: tomorrow we will have ebd #25 - and still working another

Sorry man, I’m speculating that your speculations about Ford motor issues is just speculatory speculating on data that people got from pure speculation.
You dig?????

I think the core info on this thread is good and useful, the conspiracies and made up 'facts' and rumors and paranoia could be edited out, which is why I only stop by here once in a while. Mine was built 21180, so just at the tail end of the first block. Am I worried? No. Not gonna not drive where I want. And if it blows it'll get fixed, no worries there either. But some info from Ford would be nice, though like any other big corporation enslaved to the stock price, we won't see that.

I'm sure Ford is aware of this thread and once they decide it's getting too loud they might do a recall, who knows. We're just a fraction of owners on here.

The failures are still a very small number, sucks for those affected for sure, but also not really something I'm gonna freak out about. Maybe there was one box of bad dodads in a delivery, maybe they were all bad from supplier A and from B they were all fine, who knows.

Good luck to all, the broken ones for a quick repair, the rest for no failures. Fingers crossed :)

I too want to drive without a concern for an ebd. I live on the western edge of the Province of Alberta Canadan near the Banff National Park. I would like to do snowshoeing and hikes in areas where there is no Cellular phone service. But I won’t. Not until I can feel safe that my ride will get me home. Two days ago the weather report when I went to bed said it would be -21C in the morning, it was -31C when I woke up! That’s about -24F. I would not go hiking on a day that is colder than -20C, but as you see, the weather can be unpredictable in the Canadian Rockies. No cellular service, no engine, no heat is no good for staying alive. This is no joke. I think Ford sold me on how this Bronco will take me places I would not normally go. I see people off-roading through 1 foot of snow, something we have plenty. But this off-roading beast just sits outside until i need to do grocery shopping. I will drive my 2012 BMW X5 35d everywhere I like, and when I go on my outdoor adventures, it will be BMW all the way until the weather warms up, or I buy a Garmin inReach Mini.

So again, I too want to drive without a concern for an Early Break Down, but I can’t. I am just waiting for one person within the Ford corporate culture to do the right thing.

On a different thread I was talking to someone who had gotten a 22 But I asked them to post an image of their engine. I don't remember the exact date the engine was built but it was sometime in December.

I am looking forward to when 2022 engines start coming out. At that point, I may drop my tow package :sneaky:
The Curt receiver takes 15 minutes to install. 17 tops. It’s $110 and readily available. 👍
