I did notice that from 2021 model year to the 2022 and 2023 the flipped the switch upside down. On my 2021 its flipped and you pull it rather that push it down on the 22 and 23. Seems really odd to me as well.
Mine is a May 2022 build and the switch is pulled up to set the brake. So either this is an oops or they changed mid year.

I didn't have the patience to read through this entire post but here's what I think. The trim was designed for a mechanical parking brake lever, not an electronic switch. Therefore the trim has unnecessary clearance. Probably done late before production release and not worth the expense of redesign just to make it look prettier.

My October 22 build pivots at the top.

I've only used it three times (bank drive up ATM)

Pull on, push off is weird enough.
Weird my Oct 19 2022 blend date pivots at the bottom

Cut off must be in there somewhere. The graphic above said after 9/16 but must have had a bunch left.

When I went to NV Off-Roadeo, they said you should set the parking brake all the time to prevent wear and tear on the gears. Any truth to this? And they were real specific on how to do it……while still in drive, foot on brake, set parking brake, shift to neutral, foot off brake, set to park.

They also said the logic on the push/pull of the parking brake is this: pull up on it just like you would an old fashioned mechanical parking brake. And push it down to release it, also just like an old fashioned mechanical parking brake. I think this explanation really helps with the logic of what to do.

I got a 7mt with a Sept 28 2022 blend date and it hinges at the bottom. It’s the exact opposite of my Ram truck so I am always pushing when I should pull and pulling when I should push. 🤔

Being electric, it seems like it would be better for everyone to put the switch in the shifter and have it auto engage when the car gets put in park.
What’s this “park” thing to which you refer?

My 2022 that was built in March has it the old way with the pivot on top. This looks weird lol.
Mine is 22 as well (delivered jan 20) and also pivots from top

That's very possible.

If someone wants to send me a VIN for a very late build 22 with auto and one with manual I could look up the part numbers for them.

It's to relive stress on the parking pawl, not a gear per se...also prevents any bit of roll you might encounter.
