Manual transmission deliveries....got some questions

To anyone that has taken delivery of a manual transmission I have some questions and not sure I trust the owners manual to provide the answer.

When starting the engine does the parking brake have to be on?
If so does it auto engage when shutting engine off and auto disengage when starting to drive?

Usually just the clutch depressed. I’ve never heard of a parking brake needed to start. I also doubt that the brake would ever auto engage…ever.

Some Hondas do this. Drives me insane. Owners manual doesn't say anything about it so seems like the simple answer is no. Hope it is correct.

I have a manual transmission in my 2024 2dr Badlands. The parking brake is not automatic although it is a push/pull on/off electric switch. The Bronco will start with the parking brake in any position, and you will need to remember to set the brake every time you are done driving or IT WILL ROLL away. Hope this helps!

Also to add, when you have the parking brake engaged you can drive away by starting to engage the clutch and then tapping the throttle it will release on its own. It's a little clunky to figure out sometimes at first depending on how you drive.

The parking brake switch is in an awkward spot for me with my short arms and how I sit. So if I'm off-road in a difficult situation and need to get going sometimes I find it best to do it this way instead of reaching down while my seat belt is locked.

I'd love it if some smart electrical guy can tell me how to piggyback a switch to the center console. In my brain I don't think it'd be that difficult. But I wouldn't want to make the BCM angry.

No need to just need a longer wiring…

If anything could happen ford should give us the option from the mustang…




Ford spent a lot of time w/ drifters to dial in the sensitivity.. that could be helpful on trail ( no not to drift ). Since they have that level of data/ knowledge it should be easier transferring to the Bronco.

Yeah I thought about just relocating it with a switch from a different model, however I don't want to delete the factory switch. So I would rather use a switch from another model, but in conjunction with the factory switch.

That set up from the Mustang would be pretty neat, however I don't believe it would be possible with our transfer case. Could in theory work with the Advanced transfer case, but I definitely wouldn't want to compromise mine. The Focus RS had an add-on option for a drift brake that involved a software change. But once again not a true four-wheel drive system.

I only know of two conditions the Parking Brake does anything automatic:

As mentioned - if the brake is set, and you are in gear and pushing the accelerator, and your door is closed — it will automatically release the brake

It will automatically set the brake if you are pushing on the brake and the computer detects a loss of the EBB or a regular brake malfunction. I’ve not had it happen but by reports it’s pretty jarring

Nothing to do w/ transfer case... The mustang one works like an old manual park brake.. hold the button in and you can apply different level of braking force. Electric is either on or off... mustangs level allows for different level of force on brakes based on how much you pull the level [when in drift mode]

Right because the Mustang is only rear wheel drive. In the Bronco you would have an issue with the front and rear wheels being connected while in four wheel drive. So much like the Focus RS, and Subarus and such, you have to disconnect the rear from the front or basically let the rear slip in order to not break things.

I'm referencing using it while driving off road, as in the Mustang drift mode. As far as just parking, of course no issues just like our current e-brake.
