I do think for many people, an EV is a very good choice.

Maybe even most people. The average commute is like 30 miles or something

But I would also say, Public Transit is probably a very good choice for many people. Maybe even most people.

An awful lot of the population lives in an urban area. And just because something may be a good choice doesn't mean it should be the only choice - there are things other than commutes or trips to the grocery store. One size doesn't fit all.

I got nothing against this Fathom, or any other EV. Provided I'm not forced into buying it.

Are you really worried that EVs are going to be "forced" on you? Currently there are about 100 EV car models sold in the U.S. compared to over 1,200 gas models.

So… yes. I think it’s inevitable out here, unfortunately. They have already set 100% new cars to be zero-emissions by 2035, they are ratcheting up pain with the gas tax, fuel standards and in-state refineries regulations, and smog controls will continue to get more strict.

I’m all for the environment, and I’m not even anti-EV, but I’m watching electric rates shoot through the roof, data centers hoarding every bit of energy they can get, and transmission lines burning down entire towns and wondering how do you make all-EV infrastructure work with that?

It'll probably happen.. eventually. But no way it happens in 2035, It's just political posturing. Maybe 2065. Maybe.

There is simply no way such laws will ever take effect in 8ish years. The resources and resource production would never support it, and the infrastructure doesn't either. These things will take many decades to develop, and require a couple orders of magnitude more production to fulfill demand. Ain't happening in 8 years.

And even if by some miracle it does, there's no way whatsoever that the oil lobby and car lobbies lets those laws actually go into effect.

Highly unpopular but so were pollution controls back in the ‘60s/‘70‘s and even still today with all you you folks complaining about EVs but it was necessary then and more so now and the only way it is gonna happen is through tough government regulations! True then nad more so now…we lived through the terrible cars of the ‘79s & ‘80s to come out with some truly fantastic cars today…more true now sure we will have to live through the terrible EVs and infrastructure coming but I imagine better things from it…fossil fuels are not the way forward at all…just get over it!
