Joseph . .
Thx Jim, these events seem less frequent now and no Julian dates past early Oct, but this doesn't really solve the problem for thousands of 2.7 owners w ' Hot Zone ' engines. Only NHTSA can enforce a ' Replacement Campaign ' or ' Recall '. They now have 20 Reports filed - and about 18 of them are from B6g list - i.e. about half the list, which is a little disappointing. Twice we've sent DM's asking people to file w NHTSA. The 2nd DM was sent March 10 - see below. Still about half the people in the list have not filed a report.

From the effort by @pakrat , @BC2022 , and @bytheway , NHTSA also has four letter/petitions to open an investigation of the blown 2.7's. This is prob the best approach going forward. We could draft a similar form letter/petition and ask 2.7 owners to write NHTSA. It could include the table & graphs from the opening post. If NHTSA receives many of them, it might start the gears turning

2nd DM, sent March 10 - asking blown engine survivors to file report w NHTSA

Hi Xxxxxx - (B6g @xxxxxx )

Hope your new engine running strong

Am writing to ask if you would report the blown Engine w NHTSA
- only takes couple minutes - just VIN# and sentence or two

It's the best way to motivate Ford - to open a valves 'Replacement Campaign' for others

As we know, thousands of owners still driving around with maybe blown engine any day

NHTSA now has twenty Engine reports - to get action we need a few dozen

As a blown engine survivor, your report to NHTSA can make a big difference -

Regards,
-- Joseph - (B6g @Lucchese )

MotorTrend, article by Justin Banner - February '22
". . if you experienced failure of your 2.7L Bronco V6 . . be sure to report it with NHTSA through their Report a Problem link . ."

From an informed Ford source -
-- "At this point, the best option is to build a ton of the new head assemblies, then issue a Replacement Campaign for the affected owners."

You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make him drink! If these folks don’t want to help themselves after all your work, what can you do?

In the grand scheme of things, there has been what, roughly 58K Broncos built, and figure that about maybe half of them are V6s, so you have a failure rate of roughly 1% given the numbers here?

Yeah its shitty when it happens, but not really outside the "norm" for a failure rate

No really cares as much as the person who has a catastrophic engine failure when they expected their vehicle to last a while. Hopefully not in traffic, someplace remote or in a position that could cause to themselves or orthers.

Lucchese has a way of making things feel better :) he just pointed out via PM:

“you got the solid new -AB engine and with AMB 2Dr - it's a total Unicorn - could be the only one, or extremely rare, since AMB was discontinued”

Anyhow, here’s the new engine for those that may be interested. Evidently built in Feb. 2022.

The AA designation is above the larger set of numbers. If that’s what you’re looking for. The Julian date is what is circled in red, 21-195 for the day it was built.

Figured I’d drop some good news (for me, at least) in this thread: I just tested out the new engine on a NY to NC to NY trip. 1,500+ miles on the new engine with no issue.

Interestingly, the engine always changes gears below 2500rpm. Is that normal for a 2.7L? I only had it a week before it blew and didn’t remember it always shifting that early in the RPM range.

I've done that trip a few times in my Bronco. 95 sucks and VA is always the worst stretch.
Mine shifts early like that in Normal mode, ECO even sooner. Sport mode is better, except for MPG.

I can also report good news with the replacement engine. Took it easy for the first 1,000 miles (for a second time) but now I'm letting it rip and no issues to report.

I'm not hand calculating gas mileage, but at least according to the instrument panel my mpg has gone up from 17.2 to 17.7 with similar fuel and driving. Not scientific I know, but interesting.

LOL, that's my letter they included.

Ironic that I have since stopped giving a sh!t and been driving it the way I have always imagined enjoying it. Just yesterday took it with the wife for a long day trip out into the Nevada desert by ourselves, no cell service, to explore some ghost towns and drive it like I imagined I would when I reserved it almost two years ago. Two hours out at 90 mph on the highway (don't judge, it's NV and you'll get rear ended if you don't drive that fast), followed by a few hours of exploring, high speed baja type conditions, rock crawling, and steep rutted dirt tracks. I did go prepared to spend a night in an emergency. Extra water, fire starting gear, sleeping bag, and so on.

Smart to be prepared anyhow but unfortunately seems to be mandatory until we get some answers. 8134 miles and counting smack dab in the middle of the problem window with three failed engines on my build date, and two of them within 10 sequence numbers. Makes zero sense.
