Here are my setups (ARB twin, viair 400p & co2. If you dont frequently air up/down you cant go wrong with the viair 400p. If you do it more frquently, ARB twin or co2.

I read somewhere that ARB has partnered with Ford so I am hoping they put out a mount to install a dual compressor under one of the seats. I run them in my Jeeps and they are great. I like them under the passenger seat because itā€™s out of sight, out of mind and wonā€™t take up valuable storage space anywhere. I donā€™t like them under the hood, donā€™t like the clutter there. Itā€™s a little loud but not too loud.
Someone wondered if airing down was required, Iā€™d say that if you are going places where you will be using the Sasquatch package, you are going to want to air down.

I will look into the Viair 400p, it sounds like that will suit my needs. I also like the idea of a project, and mounting a compressor under the hood sounds like a fun challenge for me to tackle on my own. I donā€™t mind getting dirty and I like the idea of not having an enticing tool in the cab for people to break in and steal. Also Iā€™m getting the 2.3 so hopefully there will be space

Only if you want to be really fancy. I just had an NPT connection mounted and used a hose just like any portable compressor.
And . . . as you say, you still need a hose. Not sure what your point is but as long as you're happy so am I.

I thought you were referring to the onboard systems that inflate all the tires at once. They require running hoses to each corner and pigtails to connect those to each tire. Fancy but way more complex. https://updownair.com/

I have a little 12V one I got on Amazon for $30 that works well. I prefer quality over most things but it's been fine for me and I've used it several times.

I almost referenced those but figured given that the OP had started out asking about portable compressors it would be overkill. Yes, I've seen those and can appreciate the technical capability and - especially for the DIY crowd - the engineering and craftsmanship that they put into them, but the cost-effort/benefit ratio doesn't ring true for me. I was merely responding to the OP that there's a need to connect some type of hose from the compressor to the tire (obvious, I know, but pointing out that "on-board" doesn't mean fully complete). That can be one hose to one tire at a time or the dual hose off a Tee-fitting/two tire or even the 4 hose systems one can buy or build (too much clutter to store for me).

To the OP - my advice is to start out with a single, quality hose and fittings with enough length to get from the compressor to the furthest tire. Over time you can determine if you want to get fancier and by then you will better understand the various options available to you.

Definitely cool, but it's a lot of air hose to run. And if you pop a seal or poke a hole in one of the lines, your whole system goes down. I'd want, at minimum, stainless steel lines for the setup and I'd still probably end up carrying a normal hose, out of paranoia, as a back up. Doing it that way, the cost starts climbing.

Ok that is also very solid advice. I'm still into the idea of buying a compressor and installing it under the hood myself, but I think I'll wait before going all out with such a fancy setup. I can run a hose from the hood to all four tires easily enough, and I know there's a fancy upgrade if I want to really trick out my rig in the future

I only run the 2 tire hose setup (Indeflate brand) because I run my fronts at different psi than rear in my truck and when Iā€™m airing the camper tires back up, they too have different psi.

And for those interested, I posted a test I ran deflating and airing back up with my different setups in a different thread. These are my deflating tools. I mainly run the coyotes because I have them auto set to 18psi.

If youā€™re looking for portable air not hard mounted to the vehicle donā€™t rule out the smittybilt compressor($170ā€™ish). I wanted something that I could switch easily between vehicles to air up with, as I donā€™t need it for lockers or tools, and have been really pleased with its performance. Iā€™m not usually a big smittybilt guy but I air up 35ā€™s from 18 psi to about 30 psi quicker than with the similarly priced viair.
