I had the Amp Powersteps installed today and I'm having a bit of buyers remorse. First of all they're damaged out of the box and 2nd they don't cover as much as the rock rails leaving an unsightly gap. I just can't unsee it. Since they are damaged I think I might uninstall and return. If you have them, is this how it looks on yours?

Damage. Doesn't suck up all the way. See the slant. Have a claim put in with who I bought then from.

there has to be wiggle room somewhere on the mounting brackets to align them better.

That's what my husband is wondering. Possibly an install issue...

@hdmontecarlo
I noticed you have them from another thread. Do yours look like this?

This is what mine look like...
When I first installed them the driver side didn't pull up tight but after a few days they must have learned the position better on closing.

Personally I really love them and so does everyone that sees them.

I also did the install myself.

Yours still look different than mine. I submitted an inquiry with Amp to see what they have to say.

Do you have the regular ones, XL or Rxtreme?

I had a similar look on a set of rigid steps that I installed. I loosened all the bracket bolts, aligned the step, then retightened the bolts. Gap on the step is perfect and uniform now. I suspect that’s what needs to be done here.

Looks fine to me. Then again I think bare pinch seams also look fine and everyone hates them soooo...

the steps cover the pinch seams just fine, you will have to make sure you have the aligned and tightened properly, I've had nothing but compliments after I installed them.

I installed my standard set a few months ago. During my install, both of my steps looked wonky like your driver’s side. Eventually I came to the conclusion that I had failed to follow the AMP instructions to the letter. Once I installed them again, following the instructions to the letter, they looked and operated perfectly.
Here’s an overview of what I would suggest be done:

- remove both motors from their location mounted to each rear linkage. “Caution: with the motors disconnected, the running boards are free to drop from a lightly stuck retracted position. Ask me how I know.

>> It’s imperative to remove the motors so that you can cycle the step up and down by hand to check for binding AT EACH STEP in the install process. <<

- Remove both steps from their respective linkage

- loosen, but don’t remove, each linkage.

- Now, start over with the install of the running boards in strict accordance with the AMP written instructions, cycling the step up and down by hand to check for binding after the snugging or torquing of each individual fastener.

If you are handy with tools, you , and a friend if one is available, can do this work by yourself. A ratcheting box wrench would be extremely helpful for the outboard bolts on the forward linkage: all of the other bolts can be accessed with sockets + extensions.
The covers over the motor assemblies are secured with weird pop trim style fasteners - probably the hardest part of this whole task for me. YMMV.

One thing that I’ve never heard mentioned anywhere before is I had to trim a plastic splash guard in each rear wheel well - cut on a 45* to avoid contact with the retracted running board. I don’t think this is the problem you’re having, but it just takes a minute to rectify. See pix for a better understanding.

good luck and let us know how everything works out
