Twice in the past couple of weeks, I’ve noticed the clock on the screen has been off by a few minutes (10 minutes this morning). I’ve never had this happen until recently. My last update according to FordPass was in October of 2024. I’ve manually adjusted the time and when I check, the auto time adjust is on. Turning it off and back on works too. It’s almost like a past issue where my interior lighting would change to off on its own and I’d have to go in every few days and turn them back on.
Thought maybe the software geniuses did something again, but it hasn’t updated in months. No issues starting/cranking yet but I wonder if my battery is slowly dying. The clock gets off overnight apparently. Just weird so was wondering if anyone else has noticed this.

Does it correct itself after being on for a bit, or just when it restarts?

Could very well be the battery. You're coming up on 3 years old, batteries don't last like they used to.

So far- no. I was out this morning for 20 minutes and it never corrected. I finally went in and adjusted it myself.

Yep, mine too. Noticed it two days ago when I got in. We'll see this morning if maybe the update might have corrected it :/

With location turned off it will not automatically adjust the clock since it doesn't know what time zone you're in. I like having it a few minutes fast anyway

Not sure how Bronco updates the clock automatically, but there are two main ways that cell phones do it, and I can place a bet

The first is the cell modem will ask the nearest cell tower. So if the tower time is off, so is any device asking it what time it is. This has the advantage that you don't need to know your time zone - you assume the local tower knows where it is and isn't moving (and has the proper time).

The second would be to contact NIST time servers directly. That requires a signal with internet connection. That will be accurate to the milliseond since they calibrate to atomic clocks, but relies on your local device determining what time zone its in.

The strange thing is I’ve had this bronco for 2 1/2 years and the clock has ALWAYS been accurate. Last two weeks- something has changed. That’s why I’m trying to figure out- software versus battery starting to fail.

Well, digital clocks don’t tend to get slower with dying batteries. They just stop, and if the battery is dead enough to kill the clock, nothing is working.

I had the same issue this week. It jumped 7 minutes forward so then I fixed it. Then the next time I started it up it was 7 minutes in the other direction. I toggled auto time update to “on” and I haven’t had problems since.

If you notice- the CarPlay clock is correct but the sync clock is wrong. Under settings, auto update was on. I toggled it and the clock corrected itself. Weird.
