Debating between the two and understand the 2.3L has been around for a long time in Mustangs, Rangers and Explorers. Thanks.

The valve thing was small potatoes. Put "cam phaser" in the search box and have fun. I don't touch Ford engines with phasers, been burned every time. It's an annoyance with a warranty, and mega expense without.

Thanks. Have there been any issues with the 2.3L?

A few things but no common themes. They're likely to carbon up around 100k and need a cleaning, but nobody is there yet.

The 2.3 has phasers too.

I prefer the 2.7L cause why not. It's a stout engine with a fascinating design. The 2.3L is also a great engine with roots dating back to the late 90s.

Frankly, the biggest difference is the mid to top end power, the 2.7L has more torque, and nearly all the way to the top of the rev range. I had two rangers with the 270hp version of the 2.3 and was never wanting for more, since the 10 speed makes up for nearly all of its power deficiencies.

I think they're both good long term and you couldn't go wrong with either. If going Sasquatch, I'd say go 2.7L just for the extra top end power.

Here's the post on the engine failures. Of the data collected on B6G, 41 of the 46 reported that listed their engine build dates had engines built between June 8, 2021 and August 12, 2021.

FWIW my engine date is 8/4, with 11k miles and still kickin'.

Seen a lot of cracked heads on the 2.7s. I went with a 2.3 🤷🏼‍♀️

One minor issue that I thought would have been resolved at the factory if not during the dealer's prep is the coolant hose rubbing against the pulley on the 2.7L. The easy fix is to zip tie the coolant hose away from the pulley to eliminate the friction. Not sure who is responsible for the fix (IMO should be at the factory), but a friend of mine just took delivery of a '23 WT. A few weeks later, the friction caused a coolant leak.

Where have you seen these cracked heads, and can you please quantify “a lot”? I’m not disputing your claim. Just looking for a little more information. Thanks.

2.7 was a run of bad parts. besides the manual debacle coming I think either engine is reliable for now.
