Hi all I am new to the forum and I wanna thank the admins for the ad. I am fairly new to the modding and off-road world but looking to drive right into it. I have a 22 outer banks on the way and I would like to put some new tires on the factory rims just wondering if anyone knows what’s the biggest I can go while retaining the crash bars. I am probably going for a a/t or hybrid tire as I do drive highway for work during the week. Any help is much appreciated thanks!!!

Hey Leo!

Welcome to the forum! There are a lot very helpful, knowledge members here.
You should be good to fit at least a 35, to my knowledge! I believe there are some guys out there fitting 37s, but requires a small lift/level. ( they claim lol )

Thank you! I think 35 would be good enough for me don’t really want to lift it just yet.

For 35 no lift needed, but I am pretty sure you WILL need to remove the crash bars.

I have an Outer Banks also. The stock tires are 32.1 inch. I replaced stock with BF KO2's sized at 275/70/R18 on original rims. No lift required and crash bars can be left in. No rub at full lock. No poke either.

If your worried about removing them they just unbolt so not a permanent change. If your concerned about the protection they might give 🤷‍♂️. As mentioned the sas doesn’t have them so they can’t be that important.

I don't know if this helps you in any way, but I have 285/75r18 (35") Nitto Ridge Grapplers on my non-sas Outer Banks with the front crash bars still installed. The crash bars on the back side of the front wheel well did have to be removed to fit the tires. However, I do have the 2" Rough Country spacer lift.

I have the regular bumper and just didn't want to take that off to remove the crash bars. Ended up being fine without it.

As mentioned, 33-inch tires are the go to if you do not want to perform mods. 35's are possible with modifications to the crush bar (I.E. aftermarket or removing them).

285/70R-18 may be a consideration and this size runs just shy of 34-inches in overall diameter.

Ditch the crash bars. I removed the Prius catchers on my super duty, I’m still here.

...well have you been in a horrific frontal collision since then?
Lmao, no shit ... right?
This is the type of "critical thinking" that makes me think we, as a Country, are fucked.
Not to mention, the Prius catchers are for the Prius....

Welcome to the forum!🥳
Another thing to think about is which gears will you be running on your Outer Banks, 3.73's or the optional 4.27's? The 4.27's will be better with bigger tires but I wouldn't hesitate to run something in the 33" diameter range with the 3.73's.
