Nah... Even the Japanese part quality gets worse. The 2019 Takata airbag safety recall is a warning sign. It is used on many brands (Ford is impacted).
That was a bad one. I had to get multiple airbags in my 2004 BMW replaced.

Toyota use to be the best because of the Japanese Parts. Now they are the same parts as everyone else.

Odds of a road trip taking a shit is pretty dependent on the owner more than the vehicle.
Preach it.

I was told many times that my GTI would be trash after 3 years and the warranty expired.

I now have two of them with around 80K miles each--I loved mine so much, I bought one for my daughter--and each of them is as reliable as any Corolla out there. Maybe more. Zero unscheduled repairs. All ya gotta do is maintain them and pay attention. Oh--and zero mods, since I use this to drive around for work and didn't want to tempt the fates.

The new tundras and Lexus LX have engines self destructing
I love me some Toyota/Lexus, but that LX can go for up to $135K. If I had one with a self destructing engine, that would be it for Toyota for me. Somebody at Toyota should be hanging his head in shame and pondering that sword on the wall of his office.

OMG, what?!?! Why am I only learning about this now???

Should have stuck with the uber reliable 2.7 that had zero reported issues </s>

Every vehicle manufacturer has issues. The Bronco is not some superior quality built vehicle... We've all seen how their QC department likes to take extended lunch breaks.
sigh.

My 5 day old OBX is in the shop. 4A didn't seem to be acting right (found that out when I invoked Sport mode, and it automagically chooses 4A for that). The guys took an initial look and found a bad battery, which they replaced. (December build, bought end of August.). But they also found some other things they didn't like, and the service manager agreed something's wrong, but he's not sure what--could be rear end in his opinion. So they're keeping it to evaluate it more.

Quite honestly, it's not that you screw up--it's how you recover from it that's important. So, we'll see.

At my dealership we're thinking it's more to do with the level of boost they run in the engine in truck form, the same engine in their sports car has zero issues

Mine has been "ok." Never left me stranded but the issues have been annoying, but then again Ford's quality sucks.

HOWEVER, all modern car's quality have taken a huge hit. There are several reasons and those will vary by manufacturer. But two that seem pretty universal are software issues and all the new tech in every car. And how high strung modern small displacement turbo engines are.

Toyota used to be a stand out for quality and solid engineering. That is no longer the case, they are having similar issues with their downsized engines.

so, Ford's quality doesn't suck compared to the competition.

That’s like saying Ford is better than average, but the average measurement sucks.
What this guy said.

Quality has gone downhill across the board, but Ford's quality has gone much further down.

They had manufacturing debris make into the main bearings. That would have happened regardless of the displacement of the engine or how much boost they're pushing through it.

Toyota until last year used 20+ year old powertrains in their vehicles making them very reliable. The 4Runner was largely unchanged since Obama's election.

Now that they've had to turocharge and add hybrids to their powertrain they're just like everyone else. Look at the Tundra debacle.

Kia and Hyundai have been eating their lunch in the family hauler space. GM and Ford are eating away at the Tacoma foothold.

Your Bronco reliability depends a lot how you build it. On average 2.3L with Mid pkg will be lot more reliable than 2.7L Lux Badlands. All those extra bells & whistles have a price - besides all the extra buck$$$$$
Disagree. My 2.7 Lux Package OBX Bronco has been very reliable over 100k miles. Some of it has a lot to do with when it was built on the assembly line and the errors which happened along the way it was built.

Now statistically, the less items you have, the less likely to experience a failure you will be, but a properly assembled Bronco is very reliable regardless of the trim and package.

So sure, you can't have a front locker failure in a Bronco that doesn't have a front locker or problems with cylinders 5 or 6 in a 4 cylinder Bronco.

I am not just talking the new crop of truck engines.
