...The airbag probably didn’t go off because the crumple zones look mostly intact. Which is saying something.
Many vehicles have the airbag sensors tied to the bumper, and a deer with some feet off the ground will barely touch the bumper. It can crumple the hell out of the hood or fenders, collapse the radiator etc. and not set the bag off.... Not sure how the airbag didn't deploy.
Even a fancier sensor based off sudden G-force changes will barely register hitting a deer or person. 200lb vs 5000lb isn't going to transfer much of a change in velocity.
