The MIC gray hard top appears to have a texture to it.
Anyone with any painting knowledge know if this could be easily painted by a body/paint shop after I purchase?

I searched and saw a thread about wrapping it. But thought the texture may not be great for that.

Any idea how much having it painted may cost?
Anyone with jeeps had their hardtop painted?

The best options i've heard of so far are:

  • Raptor Liner (DIY)
  • Rhino liner bed-liner spray in (have a shop do it)
  • SEM plastic paint
  • Test it with some vinyl and know that you aren't getting the best adhesion so it won't last all that long

In order to paint a textured panel you'll need to smooth it out, as far as I understand. But i'm not in the world of automotive painting.

Not sure, but why would anyone buy it if it's not modular? It would be very painful to remove.

It still comes apart in sections, it just doesn’t have removable rear windows and the modular just splits the back into 2 panels

They do it on Jeeps all the time. I don't see why not. Sand the texture off and paint the surface if you're going for a smooth coat. For Line-X or if you're keeping the texture you'd just have to rough the surface up enough things to adhere.

Won't be as bad as any of my K5s tops, and they weren't painful.

I plan to raptor line mine. I know I will have to use the plastic adhesive product first, and it still may not bond correctly. Won't know until I do it.

Just about anything can be painted with the proper prep.

Not a problem to color match down the road. Sand flat, prime, block, seal, color & clear. I have color matched jeep tops and other formerly textured surfaces.

Anybody know the exact material of the MIC top? Is the modular the same material?

Thanks

Sunshine, rain, snow, dark of night....all soak in and cause issues with MIC 2.0 or so reported.

One thought, if these could easily have been painted. Why not haveboffrted that option to MIC 1.0 owners?

But, like said, anything can be painted with the proper prep, which isn't not include sanding unless you want an eventual other finish. And the right primers and topcoat.

Bet you have painted walls or ceilings in your house that are not silky smooth. Textures are painted daily

I know there were some pics from a place that did paint a mic top and it looked pretty good. So can you? Yes. Would I? Hell no. With all the issues that thing is having even in the “2.0” version, I would not touch because when it fails you want ford to replace it and if you paint it, they are going to deny that coverage for sure.
