To be honest I never even really considered the soft top before as the MIC was just standard with my trim: 4DR, Badlands, 2.7L, Sas, Lux, Towing capability. 7/28/20 Reservation, no build date yet :(. With the continued delays and looking into it, I'm fairly certain I'm going to switch my build I just don't want to overlook anything., hence coming here.

As I see it going with the soft top will more than likely improve my chances of getting a 21' Bronco and fits better with my lifestyle. I live in FL, so I want maximum flexibility in terms of ease of removal of doors and top. I live by myself in a high rise apartment in the city, and after watching the video for the removal of the hard top 1) it doesn't seem possible as a solo job 2) I really don't have an easy way to store the back panels. So while I dream of driving this Bronco with the doors and roof off in reality with the hard top I'm guessing the back portion would more or less always be only unless I wanted to joy ride with a friend. Weather doesn't get cold here so I don't need the insulation. I figure I'll pick up more road noise, and am basically signing myself up for not having the option of having a hard top till say end of 23', but back to previous points it seems more limiting. I've never owned a Jeep/off-road vehicle before so just wondering what I may be overlooking?

Edit: "Convince" might have been a poor word choice, mea culpa. I'm just trying to understand why there is so much hate for soft tops, especially if you can get a hard top down the road.

Update: Thanks for the helpful replies all! Ended up switching my order to a soft top. I think regardless of model year 21' or 22' it's a better fit for my driving needs, but will plan to pick up a hard top down the line. I hope someone in the year 2025 enjoys my MIC top. :)

Thanks in advance,
Jim

You'd be an idiot to get a soft top. Do you want to be an idiot?

The OP is looking to be convinced of something that is subjective and he/she has little or no input on their own wants/needs. So, that's the best subjective short-answer.

I live in Florida and the soft top is a good option for Florida.

The only reasons I could see to go hard top is if you want the extra security of the hard shell or you want to use roof racks. I'm sure the hardtop would be a little more sound proof and think not that big a deal on that point.

I have been planning on getting the hard shell and probably going soft top after thinking about it.

You do you man. I have lived in Florida and think the soft top will work for you just fine in that climate. I don't let others choose for me, but i do take advice for guidance. I am not going to try to convince you of anything. It is your hard earned money. With the modularity of the vehicle you can pick either hard or soft top, just like a taco on a Tuesday night.

Being a July 28 reservation you really are on the cusp I’ve been pushed to a 2022 model year if you get the hardtop. I would highly recommend you go to a jeep dealership or a used car dealership that has a convertible jeep and take it for an extended test drive. Or better yet go to hertz and rent a convertible jeep for a couple days. Only you can decide what’s best.

Ha. I like straight forward people. At least you know where they stand! Man, you get whatever Bronco you desire. I could not deal with a soft top. I don't like anything about it except MAYBE getting it a little quicker. Not a reason to change something that costs that much. This is your decision, but GET WHAT YOU WANT. Don't let Ford or anyone else push you in to getting something you will regret.

I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want on your Bronco. If you are looking for a soft top, but really want a hard top, then heed my warning. I do have a very particular set of skills. Skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you get the hard top that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you, but if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you and I will kill you."

Good luck in your choice.

I mean if this doesn't convince you to not get the soft top, nothing else will.

Oh wow. GET THE FREAKIN' SOFTOP!!!! I was a dual dude since I'm here where it gets cold....but then realized I don't want to switch them with the seasons, AND I want to roll most of the year with all the rear windows out....I can put them back when I need to, and can roll the top up and down as I need to....I park in a garage, so snow isn't a huge issue....I can't imagine a better top.

Do you plan to have children (or have young nieces/nephews) any time soon who will be in the back flailing their arms around with really sharp objects?

Sounds like soft is a decent fit for you currently if you are looking to roll the dice and maybe get it sooner......

Based on your living situation, I think you may be happier with a soft top. I'm getting the Bronco to replace my 97 jeep soft top. I don't like the looks of the soft top on the Bronco, but putting the top down and removing the top look much easier. I'm worried that I won't take the top down as often with the MIC top or I may get stuck in heavy rain without the top. I've replaced several "marine grade" radios in my jeep already, and there is a lot more tech in these new broncos. They may be water resistant, but they are not water proof.

Now that you can get them wired for a future hard top, I think I may be happier with both tops. And I will have a year or two to decide if I really want the MIC or painted top.

Sounds like one of the main reasons for you to get a bronco is to ride with the top down. It is for me. I really like the ease of lowering (and raising) the soft top.
