At 6’1”, this gives me a lot of hope! Nice design!

I don't have the Bronco yet but would like to incorporate a similar front extension into my plans.

Can you give the approximate lengths for each of the three sections? That would help my planning immensely.
I’m pulling a 48hr shift at work and don’t have the platform in the Bronco at the moment. If I have time and remember 🤪 I’ll get those measurements for you. Send me a DM so that I remember. 😉

Also, you mentioned that you make want to make a removable support to stand up under the void by the hinges....

Just eyeballing it, a carpeted double-thick board might be the right size to be stowed near the tailgate when it is all folded up; leveling off your cargo shelf and hiding those exposed hinges.
I like that idea for the trunk/deck space covering the hinges. They show more than they should because I ran out of paint and was shaking the crap outa that can to get a bit of paint on them. Lol. Just haven’t gone to get more. That being said - the support needs to be 3.75” tall. So it’ll take up some of the uneven void space in the trunk when folded up but not all. I’ll check it out though. Also - I’m worry that it might be a little tippy and fall over when pressure is put on it. It’s worth trying though. 👍🏻

So I’m about to embark on a little road trip 😉. Roughly 4300 miles. I’m going to spend a few nights in the Bronco (roughly 5-6 total) and wanted a flexible and easy solution that would provide me adequate space, comfort and ease of setup. Although I’ll be going it alone this time, I wanted my platform to match the 60/40 seating and give me the option of going single or double.

I decided to use 5/8” plywood to keep things fairly light. I also decided on only 2 supports, allowing me access to my floor compartment. The supports are 6” tall and the platform ends up perfectly flat. I’m really happy with the result! I’ve also installed some Velcro tabs around the vehicle and have blackout curtains that surround the entire sleeping area. It takes me about 5 minutes to be completely ready to sleep (platform unfolded, curtains installed and air mattress filled). This option leaves you with an uneven trunk space when the platform is folded up and stored - but that wasn’t a big deal to me. It takes me about 10 seconds to put it in the Bronco or to remove it. I don’t have a scale but this thing’s pretty light. Maybe 35lbs. I also love the hidden storage that it provides if going topless.

I’m 6’2” and 230lbs and I fit without a problem. With my previously made (and posted) window vents and a battery operated fan/light that hangs from a roof latch, as well as my headrest mounted iPhone/iPad mount - I’m all set up!!!

Before anyone comments - I’m gonna replace the orange webbing with black - but I already had it and at least it matches my Badlands trim 😉. Hope this inspires some even better ideas.

Looks very nice, I like how you left the access to the storage area.

Very well done! I like that you can pull it all out pretty easily when you're not doing an overnighter so it makes it that much more flexible.

It literally installs or removes in seconds. It fits snug and doesn’t rattle under normal conditions. As mentioned previously- I’ll see how it holds up during the trip and off-roading soon!

I'd like to see pictures of the velcro window shades when you get a chance. That's something I've been thinking of as well.

I’ll try to remember to take some and post them here during my travels. 👍🏻

I’m hoping for an aftermarket solution like this. Perhaps the cushioning could be taller in the cargo area to level out the area:

I was looking at doing something similar. We are just wanting to throw an air mattress in the back and considered just building a platform directly behind the seats, to bring the rear up to the same level as the seats. Has anyone tried something similar?

Yes, here is a picture of what I did. Very simple, 37” deep and 41.5” wide supported by 2x4’s then covered by underfelt carpet from Amazon.

nice - but it looks like the seats angle up quite a bit.. wouldn't that make it uncomfortable for sleeping?

Thanks 22 - now that you mention it it will probably bother the heck out of me. lol

in actuality, it is only one side that is at an unacceptable angle but that is where my Bluetti goes. At 60lbs it weighs it down just fine so I suppose I never noticed.

Awesome build, I am in the middle of one similar, and wanted to use piano hinges but am worried about how they hold up over time with plywood plus the weight of 2 humans and 2 dogs. Have yours held up?
