Using a nav app on my phone out of cell service doesn't work.
Huh. Does for me.

I don't have to download maps on the connected built in nav.
Ah. A couple years ago I downloaded the continental US on my phone.

One time. Done.

So now my phone, away from cell service, is identical with regard to mapping to the Ford built in nav, away from cell service.

I will never count on the car. Ever.

Oh--and when the cell system changes, my phone will change and will still work. Unlike my son's C-Max, which was built with 3G technology back when 4G technology was well established. Because that's how car development works--always 5+ years behind.

I will never count on the car. Ever. If I need backup, it'll be a Garmin that I can keep up to date if I want to/have to.

What map did you download?

I used to have an iPad dedicated to navigation because—frankly—I don't want to cache gigabytes of offline map data on my phone.

Once Ford allowed you to pay for Connected Navigation with FordPass points I switched over to that. It was simply cheaper to buy Connected Navigation for $Free than it was to pay for a new tablet for $650 and cellular/GPS data access for my tablet for $180/yr. And as others have mention, you'll occasionally get coupon codes through FordPass.

If I'm off-roading in the middle of no-where, I will still cache OnX maps data on my phone, as well as bring paper maps of the area just to have that extra safety net. But just for everyday navigation stuff, Connected Navigation has been surprisingly great.

I received a $20 promo for mine thru Dec 4. Got an email about it 10 days ago. When I log into my account, it shows Promo Available so guessing it's VIN tied since no codes needed.

Bummer. I just checked my app and no promo for me :(

I will continue to live without the app. Not worth $80 since my phone can do all that I need.

yeah, it's possible my next phone won't have an SD card slot--so the decision to store that data may be different then.

It was simply cheaper to buy Connected Navigation for $Free than it was to pay for a new tablet for $650 and cellular/GPS data access for my tablet for $180/yr.
The problem is, said nav data is locked to a single car. The phone is portable no matter what car you take.

One can also choose a Garmin, which is cheaper than an iPad and which gets periodic updates for free--and is also portable among different cars if need be (family car, rental, buddy's car, etc.).

Ok, so it’s the connection using the App for the listed convenience features. Well, I do like them and use often, so I think the connection does need to be on in the truck for the stuff to work, so maybe I’ll think About paying for it, but $80 is a lot to me if that’s annual.

The nickel and diming gets old, but I get that someone has to code this stuff and keep it updated that make it look easy, but it’s complex. $50 would be an easier pill to get down.

Come to Canada. It is only $20.00 per year. LOL
