This is somehting that you either live with or get rid of. I have left it on in my Ranger for three years and I hardly notice it anymore unless it is max temp in the summer. I feel like people make a bigger deal about this then they should then obsess over how much they hate it.

I have it on my Bimmer. I try to leave it on and get used to it. That lasts like 10 minutes at best. Luckily my BMW has a button next to the start button you can press each time AND it remembers. So if it's set to off, the next time I start it up and drive, it will stay off without having to push the button again (Thank you BMW).
My Bimmer has auto-park in addition to auto-stop which means you can stop at those annoying 5 minute red lights - or teh drive-through fastfood, bank, brewthrough AND just take your feet off the pedals. In the X4 the startup after stop is tied to the go pedal, not as Ford insanely designed, releasing the stop pedal. I actually see very little lag in the Bimmer.

Problem with the Bronco is that when you are stopped you ALWAYS have to have a foot on the brake pedal

I have no problem with the auto stop feature as implemented (with my 2.3 auto drivetrain).

I wait at a light, and it decides whether to shut off engine.
I ease up on brake when I want to wake it up, so I'm ready to go when the time arrives.
It saves gas.

This exactly. Just ease off the brake a tiny little bit before the light starts to turn and the engine is running again. It's a great feature. I personally think it should be more aggressive, like when I'm in a drive through, it will shut down the first time I stop but it won't keep shutting down.

On a BMW you can just code it out with Bimmercode or myCarly. you can also unlock a bunch of other features.

Auto restart on stall and AS/S are separate features. If you have AS/S off, and stall, punching the clutch should still restart.

Although, there is very little reason to bother to turn it off in the manual. I only turn it off when I am at the drive-up ATM.
Yeah, I've never turned AS/S off. I barely notice it as a feature, but good to know if I do turn it off. Maybe it just works better with the added millisecond of pressing the clutch and shifting into 1st. Aside from hybrids, the only cars I've owned that had AS/S have been manuals.

I hardly notice it anymore. The double honk is the feature Ford needs to kill.

How does this tie in with letting the turbo cool down before shutting off

I hated it in my Audi. It always stops prematurely and jerks the car.
Got a plug in, behind the buttons. It is now default to off.

Bronco on the other hand works perfectly.

It shuts the engine off when I press the brake firmly.
It won't shuts off if I press the brake just enough to keep the car from rolling during stops.

I'm getting used to modulate the foot pressure now. More like start stop foot on demand lol
