I get a significant increase from Eco, but you have to monitor your boost religiously.
More boost =more fuel consumption.
Agree 100%! The funny thing is how easily the 2.7L goes into boost. Most boosted engines I've had in the past would stay in vacuum at cruise on the highway. But the Bronco goes into boost (.7 lbs) at the slightest throttle tip in. Seems like the turbos are just slightly undersized which seriously affects the MPG.

If you have a “mode” and you want to test the effectivity of that mode, you don’t change other variables. That’s what I did in my unscientific method. I drove the same way as normal, didn’t try to do any more. The only effect I saw was sluggish response from everything, and worse mileage. That tells me Eco was designed to satisfy a certain group/rule and doesn’t really do anything real. If a mode requires you to act differently then it’s not a mode. It’s a reminder.
I get what your saying I really do.

but what I was trying to say was because of the sluggish response most people tend to drive it harder in eco to replicate their normal driving style.

Maybe I'm just different lol but when I put it in sport mode, I'm not driving like I normally do I'm driving aggressive and really cranking up the fun factor, normal is normal and when I'm in eco I'm making sure I'm trying to squeak out as much as possible.

Then the reminder works well! :) In all seriousness, I do wish the mode did something more than just make it worse to drive. I still need to enable sport on mine, really want to see what a difference that makes. I suspect I'd like to just replace eco with sport.

This ^

I've done similar experiments as the OP. You do have to change the way you drive in eco mode.
Agreed. I can see a small bump in Eco mode but I have to drive like I’m afraid of driving lol

What would make eco better? You can only do so much without going full hybrid. I think the reason eco is sluggish is to make it easier to keep the car out of boost (hence eco mode not eco boost mode ). I use eco mode when I'm not in a hurry so I can take my time getting up to speed. Oh and also after an arm workout day, I'm pretty sure the steering feel goes to comfort on eco mode

I get better mpg in ECO mode for sure (3-5 mpg, 20+ mpg). Use the pedal as you normally do, not your 0 to 60 speed. It will be slower at acceleration. Just like when you use the pedal the same in sport mode you will go faster.

Thanks to this thread, conducted a short experiment this morning. I've kept my 3k miles all in Eco up to now, to see what max mileage could be. Switching to Sport....YIKES! like taking off the leash. So much more responsive, AND I might be getting 1-1.5 mpg MORE. Trying to imagine riding a bike and shifting gears, so your legs work less or more, depending....shifting to Sport likely holds rpm's down as gearing is lower is all I can figure. If this is all true, there's no downside to running in Sport all the time!

I haven’t seen any changes in any of the modes on pavement. I would like to know what changes ECO modes makes.
