Just finished a 540 mile round trip from Seattle to Corvallis. As an experiment I had it on Eco mode for the drive down, and normal for the return. I had the same load, and took the same route -- 98% on I-5, between 65 and 75 mph both ways. In Eco I averaged 18.3mpg, and in normal I averaged 20.6mpg.

This was in a non-sas BL, 2.3l and 7mt.

Have others seen similar results in Eco mode?

I'm in a 2.7 SAS and I'm averaging 18.8 or so when in eco, and around 17 ish when in normal, but that's commuting in town to work, I wonder how different it would be open highway for long distances.

My eco mode on my SAS 2.7 is around 18.7 and 18 for normal. Granted, I have done a lot of highway miles and once the bronco gets over 75 mph the mpg drops rapidly. I drove across south UT at 85-87 mph and it was dropping to 16-17 mpg. Speed is critical for getting good mileage in bronco in my experience.

I have found, following mpg, on multiple trips that head wind can account for significant differences…… but then maybe I’m extrapolating my private pilot experience…..but the numbers are there.

Eco mode won't help much, if at all, on the highway. Eco messes with shift points and throttle response. It's for improving mileage when accelerating, primarily around town.
Highway mileage is a function of speed and aerodynamics.

Variables probably weighed in such as a net elevation increase or head wind on the one way.
All eco mode does is soften and lessen your throttle inputs. You won't notice squat driving on the highway with cruise on

Every time I have tried “ECO” in any of our ford vehicles(22 BD Sport, 22 Wildtrak, 20 Explorer Platinum) , I have never got better fuel economy! Maybe the “ECO” is meant for the environment, it has never helped my pockets.

I get better mileage in normal mode, too.

I'm averaging around 21+ mpg when using Premium fuel in Eco + Cruise control. If using normal mode, I'm typically hovering around 18mpg. I have a 2-door, 2.7l Badlands Sasquatch on stock wheels/tires.

I do the same commute every day so it's a pretty controlled situation. Without eco i average around 19 and with eco as high as 21. Not a huge differnece but consistently over 20 on eco and under on normal. But I've been running premium lately, so running on normal and having a bit of fun so now low 19's.

Yeah the eco mode is pretty pointless. It just turns your bronco into a dog and doesn’t save any gas…at least in my experience. I stopped even trying it.
