Your headlight switch will turn by itself?
Turn your headlights to the off position tonight. Check and see where that switch is tomorrow. It will be back in the automatic position.

I got notification of an update on the 19th. Failed to get a screenshot from the Ford Pass app but it stated "phone as a key". That is nowhere to be found now but it was first thing in the morning as I was remote starting the vehicle that I noticed it in the app.

How many in this thread have paired a phone or other device to their Bronco? Just curious if a lot of these updates are related to ongoing compatibility and connectivity to mobile devices…

I haven’t connected my phone to the Bronco, but my wife may have connected her phone when we first got it.
Every time I start the vehicle I get a message to the effect “ phone failed to connect”.

Two things.

One: Military has a saying, tip of the spear. You don't wanna be that. Turn off automatic updates but don't wait forever unless you never update (which is it's own risk). The onus is on you. The longer you go, the bigger the update, the bigger the risk it'll go wrong or a security fix will get missed. However, let some other sucker get that thing first and see how it goes.
FILO sucks
Last out has it just as bad if you're retreating
I'm definitely in the never update camp, I'm dreading the thought of updating and also not updating.

It is not an actual switch. It is a rotation sensor with indicator lights, so nothing needs to turn for the computer to change the setting.
Oh Okay good more sensors

I don't advocate never updating, there's always risk and people do need to decide, but the ramifications of never updating are far greater than the number of folks who get bricked. That being said...

Let's be real, the driver behind all this fly by wire is to sell subscriptions. We haven't gotten there yet, but check out what Mary Barra did at GM before taking over (work on proving IP on computerized systems). It's all a treadmill, the features are just the sweetener before the enshittification occurs. Thanks Elon!

Like BMW with the $18 month heated seats, $10 month heated steering wheel, and $80 to use CarPlay for a year. Not sure where that all is currently but I do know there was a lot of pushback. I think it’s ridiculous but not surprised.

With my prior 2010 Silverado, I woulda told you only posh dentists needed those features... All I had was a cd player and sony miniplug for years.

Now with snazzy 2023 Bronco, heated seats and CarPlay are a those-are-awfully-nice. It would be profitable but criminal to charge subscriptions for either...

Don't tell the car companies I said that. 👀 😅

I very recently had a “non-drivable” update. It appeared on the screen when I started the car before departing from a local store. It gave me the choice of updating now or scheduling. It very clearly indicated the car would be undrivable for, in this case, 10 minutes. I believe it mandated: ignition off, vehicle in Park, and doors locked. No mention of a specific position of the headlights.

When I got home, I went to the updates screen and performed the update. Took about 10 minutes and I received a notice on FordPass that it was successful.

As others have noted, this update indicated it was making minor software changes to facilitate future updates. Not sure what happens if you’re not updating and then decide to update in the future….

To that point (locked doors), many cars parked in home garages may never meet the conditions. I feel like there are so many caveats to updates! Moon in this position, dishwasher empty, clean socks :p

Maybe working in IT has ruined me, but the amount of electronics/computer controlled things in the new Bronco definitely concern me. When I get mine, that telematics modem fuse is coming out, and I don't intend on installing any updates unless there is some issue to resolve or new feature that I think I'll use.
