I haven't had my dog (roughly 70lb Australian shepherd / lab mix) in my Bronco yet, but I like having her go with me as I run around town. I'm debating if it is better to put her in the rear seat with a "hammock" type of pet seat cover, or to just put the seats down and put her in back (with her belted to her harness). On the rear seat seems safer because she would be a little more confined, and she may be able to see better, but seems like it would be hard to get her in through the front door. Getting her in the back would be easy, but I'm worried she is going to slide around too much.

I know every dog and situation will be a little different, and I'll probably end up trying both, but interested in thoughts and opinions.

Thanks

My dogs have an easier time seeing out of the windows with the sets folded down. You actually gain them a few inches folding the set versus leaving it up.

Mine were a bit put off by the rear set arrangement coming from a Hammock set up in my Ranger but they got accustomed to it.

You can always get some of those rubber mats to put on the back of the seats like Mabbett or others sell on amazon to help combat sliding.

Removed rear seats, built deck, use foam garage mats and let my 70lbs English Bulldog have the entire back to move around.

I too bought the Goose Gear rear seat delete and placed a dog bed in the back. My boxer loves it.

Yeah I also ditched he rear seats and built a platform. Now my dog only wants to go for rides in the bronco and not my wife’s Jeep 😂

I have a 120lb Great Dane. As the rear seats don't fold flat, he does not like it back there. I have seen a mattress set up that is molded to make it flat while going over the rear seats. I need to find that company and will post a link once I do.

EDIT: Here is the link to what I was thinking of.

I fold one of the back seats down, and let him on the other seat (buckled in with his harness).
He goes in and out of the tailgate.

Had a 2D, 85lb Lab didn't do well. Didn't want to remove seats, ended up trading it for a 4D.

The best way to show your family member love - is to have them in a CRATE in the back.

I havent seen any good grates yet to divide the cargo area and the rear seats, but its an option if it comes out.

If you get in an accident and they are not in a crate, they can get injured or worse and also kill you. Then you cant give them treats anymore.

I am looking for a divider (for a 2 door) that can keep a fully grown but full of energy yellow lab from getting to the front seats. I know if I buckled her in she would just pull and scratch trying to move around, but my hope is that with a proper divider things will work out well.

Also an Aussie owner facing the same issue. Ordered one of these and came in the mail today. Not a perfect solution since you still have to fold both seats down, but it takes care of the gap between the seats that she kept getting her leg stuck in. We'll see. Amazon link to this thing if interested: Link
