Ford 10R80 and 10R60 10 speed automatic transmissions, lots of bad press?

Okay, my turn to vent.

This has nothing to do with Fords decision to go with the 10R60 over the 10R80, I just want a transmission that is reliable first and foremost. Out of curiosity I Googled "10R60 vs 10R80", and was dismayed at the amount of bad press on these transmissions. The first hit was: "Is the Ford 10 speed transmission reliable". Answer: "No. It has a history of problems". I know you can dig up dirt on anything online, but these 10 speeds seem to have a bad reputation. Some of the same sources lauded the previous 6R80 transmission the 10 speeds replaced! I wish the Bronco had that one! Complexity for the sake of complexity is NEVER a good thing, how much benefit is there to 10 speeds, 0.1 MPG? I have heard a lot of complaining on this site over trivial stuff like hard plastic and effing heated seats and lighted vanity mirrors, how about the transmission? Has Ford fixed the problems? Mine is working well now with just 100 miles, but nothing is worse than a problematic clunky transmission. Been there done that.

Update:

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I'm feeling better about the 10 speed with all the positive comments. Come to think of it, there has not been any transmission issues reported on this site where everyone complains about everything, a good sign. After two weeks loving my lowly Base Bronco.

Same transmission in the explorer ST and I had 0 issues over 35k miles and I was a spirited driver. Just an FYI. I also have the 10R80 in my last two F150 and my first one 2019 had a terrible shifting issues from 10-6 under full acceleration. My new f150 2021 is significantly better but still a little hard at times. So food for thought.

10R60 in the Explorer ST has been good. Many with tunes, pushing a ton of power and still going strong. Happy to have that in my Bronco when it comes in.

Other than software related problems, they have several mechanical issues that Ford is aware of. Two of which have technical service bulletins. Ford wants to decrease warranty spend right now, so I'm sure they have a large team working on remedying the issues if they haven't already.

Glad to here, thanks! From what I know the 60 and 80 are basically the same design with the 60 being a bit lighter.

29 pounds lighter with a lot of low friction parts.

I don’t really pay too much attention to reviews!
People are just way too stupid and don’t know what they’re talking about!
PS Goes for opinions as well!

It’s so bad, GM even adopted the design to use in their trucks. I think the 10spd is probably fine. There aren’t enough of the newer version to really know though one way or another.

There was a revision for 2021’s 10R80 and they’re much better now than the first series (2018-2020). This is both feedback from customers and myself personally. The 10R60 has likewise been rather well regarded. Knock on locks but so far so good personally.

It's called a 5 year 60,000 mile warranty.

What were your sources, and were any of them positive?
I just googled "Ford 10R80" or "Ford 10R60". There are positive reviews describing the technology of the transmission, but the number of bad consumer reviews is scary. I'm trying to remain positive and hopefully Ford has addressed the issues.

6 speed automatics are old tech, the 10 speeds are a joy to drive, I imagine people argued that 2-speed Powerglides were all the world needed in the 60s.
I'm not against new technology when it works, and I hope it proves to be a reliable long lasting transmission. That said, you can get new Powerglides today! Quality endures.

People usually get online to vent , not praise.
Ive hade the 6spd in many 150s. Currently have the 10spd in my raptor and in my bronco. They are both great improvement over the 6. Faster acceleration.
They are “learning” trans, ford constantly comes out with updates to smooth them out aswell.
Way of the future..

And i miss my AC seats and seat memory way more then im concerned about my trans.. 😃 ford ESP got me
