With Hurricane Ian still a threat to the East Coast, it occurred to me that our Broncos are high water vehicles (yes, Jeeps too). I don’t recall the water fording depth for my Badlands SAS, they mentioned it at the Off-Roadeo, and I’m pretty sure I saw a chart for it….somewhere…. Just checked the Owner’s Manual, but didn’t find it.

These are published numbers. Anyone have access to them?

Just below the height of your alternator.

Seriously, not sure on the official height (30" ???) but having mud and water kill the alternator is a well known issue with these.

Stay below the height of the tire and you should be fine, unless of course it's moving water, and then don't go near so deep.

It’s 33.5”.

That being said, keep the alternator dry and don’t push water over the hood as you enter. Do not drive in a current. The vehicle will loose traction. You also cannot see under the water. Gonna be a ton of debris down there. Lastly, the roads aren’t always where you think they are. It’s never safe to drive over flooded roads. Situations like FL are best left to boats and experts.

Clean water = about the top of your tires
Muddy Water = stay below your alternator

with all the electronics in these vehicles water is the enemy. One drop in a circuit board can give you gremlins for the life of the vehicle.

The owner's manual lists it under Driving Hints. This is on page 294 of the 2021 manual. It says the maximum wading depth for vehicles without the Sasquatch package is 31.5 in and with Sasquatch is 33.5 in. it also gives other hints about speed in water and all that. Probably worth reading if you take your Bronco off road or do stream crossings.

Thanks for the page reference, it was driving me nuts I knew I had seen it somewhere.

EDIT: Page 296 in the ‘22 manual…..
