Ok, it's about time to start this thread. We need to start tracking which engines are dropping valves, otherwise, it's not gonna happen.

If you have a failed motor, here is what we are looking to track:

Failed Part Number: MB3E-6007-AA (example: Engine)
Engine Julian Date: 21XXX
Engine Sequence Number: (last 6 digits of the serial number)
Mileage of failed motor: 2312.0 (example)
Cause of failure: Best guess/Ford answer
Replacement Part Number: MB3Z-6006-A
New Engine Julian Date: 21XXX (if replaced)
New Engine Sequence Number: (if replaced)

If your motor hasn't failed or isn't a replacement for a failed motor, please do not post its serial number here, but feel free to join in the discussion.

FAQ:

Decoding Ford Part Numbers 101 (and possibly wrong):

ford-part-numbers-png.png

MB3Z-6007-AA
MB3 = 2021 Bronco
Z = Parts Dept Order
6006/6007 - engine
AA - Major Revision 1, Minor Revision 1

Perhaps A is a 2.7 (MB3Z-6007-A) and B is a 2.3 (MB3Z-6007-B)

You can read more here: https://m.roadkillcustoms.com/decode-ford-part-numbers/

MB3Z-6006-A <- Possibly pre-production
vs
MB3Z-6007-AA <- our original part numbers
vs
MB3Z-6007-B <- later part number from what I can tell or perhaps an interchange part
MB3Z-6007-C <- later part number from what I can tell or perhaps an interchange part

Those looks superseded service part numbers.

When prefix has a Z at end, It's a service number.

Well if someone can school me on the right way to read them, I would really appreciate it.

BTW, seeing two things -

one failed motor was a 131XXX series, so that sucks
one documented failed motor was replaced with an earlier revision dated 21125, seems like a reasonable assumption that either 6006-AA motors or motors built before 21125 "should" be unaffected. Otherwise Ford is not playing it smart.

If the problem is with some 3rd party springs or seals etc then this might not be limited to any particular range.
We would be at the mercy of any poorly made part getting picked up and put in a new engine build.
Welcome to the new normal.
If you want a reliable newish ride, buy a 2018-2019 Honda or Toyota.

LOL, that's awesome advice, I'll head over to my Toyota dealer now... I have been missing the excitement that I can only find in the RAV4. ;)

Can you double check his Julian number?

In his thread he had said 7/28 which is 21209 (that date is stuck in my head as that is my same build date for my 2.7 though I haven't had issues as of yet with the motor).

It would be interesting to possibly add Blend/Build date of the vehicle to the mix.
I checked my engine sequence and it aligns fairly close to the original blend/build date I had of June 14th. June 9th engine build date, and a July 15th actual blend/build.

I also find it interesting that they replaced @Broncoshrimp s 2.7 with an earlier built engine.
I figured most of those would have been sent to the line, unless there is a clause where Ford needs to retain XX amount of spares for repair and overhaul.

Iā€™m wondering if the root cause really is the valves dropping? Iā€™ve seen the post where a Lima motor employee(they deleted their account shortly after the post..likely to Fords demand) seem to indicate a bad batch of valves affecting April build motors, but obviously itā€™s not true with the ones posted above.

In this thread, the guy had some voltage out of range/ misfiring issues. ā€œThe codes generated were P0201, P0205, P0301, and P0305. Cylinders 1 and 5 had out of range voltage or resistance, as well as ignition misfiresā€ https://www.bronco6g.com/forum/thre...lem-before-100-miles-had-to-be-towed-šŸ˜”.27141/
And his Bronco went into limp mode. His dealer updated the software but didnā€™t see anything else wrong to change out. Could this be a mild case of the problem we are seeing and his bronco was able to go into limp mode before any engine damage occurred? Anyone able to see what software updates and what they fix for the broncos? Could it possible be a tuning/timing issue that is simply solved with a software update?

The other uncertainty Iā€™ve seen with the 2.7 is how much oil does it really take? However looking up what overfilling an engine oil can do to an engine doesnā€™t seem catastrophic as what we see with these blown 2.7.
