Well our Bronco just went into production so just a few more weeks till we can really compare / contrast on our end! We ordered an OBX as my wife was set on leather and a manual just doesn’t make sense in NYC but planning to swap to steelies and more tire first thing and then a roof rack once we have an idea of ease of loading and roof removal. Looking at JCR again for a rack but may just buy the factory rails second hand to start.

Took possession of our Bronco! So far living up to my dream of combining the Cherokee and f150 characteristics!

I'm glad this thread popped back up. I ran across my old XJ today and snapped a picture with it and my Everglades

I love it! Even the 2.3 is growing on me, its way stronger than the old reliable 4.0. Looking forward to getting it offroad

My ‘95 2dr XJ just turned 90K miles. No frills and mostly stock and runs great. My Bronco 4dr OBX is hands down better in almost every category. That said, it feels like a fat man on a ropes course when it comes to the trails. Owning a 26yr old XJ is a subscription to a mechanics course but most things can be had on the cheap at a local junk yard. I enjoy both but if SHTF and I was forced to sell one, the XJ would still be in the stable.

Give the stock tires a chance, I bet they will surprise you in NYC, they are rather decent road tires.

Had a 2001 XJ we bought brand new. At the same time we also had a 2005 Jeep Jeep TJ, also brand new. The XJ was an auto the TJ a manual. Both were bullet proof, never a single issue. Not much 4 wheeling but lot of driving in snow storms and they were both great.

I miss the simplicity of the design of both. And both were so easy to maintain and work on. The Bronco still terrifies me if something even basic goes wrong. It's like dealer only, not something you can easily work on at home.

This is the last pic on my phone of my XJ, fenders are trimmed and a few other small changes (no flags or clear corners). Still have it, is getting an engine swap as we speak. New engine is in, just need time to hook all the accessories up and get the engine bay sorted.

98 4.0 Classic, on 31's (33's shortly), 3-ish lift, JCR armor all around, 4.10 gears, rear ARB locker.

It's a great rig and has been exceptionally reliable. Jeep simplicity is key. Can you compare to a Bronco fairly? 30 years of design/engineering/tech development...The jeep beats you up on the road but works great off. If something breaks it can usually be fixed fast and cheap, something that will never happen on the Bronco. Too many systems rely on other parts/systems.
