The condition of NJ roads can be considered by some as good off-roading 😊
Along with Boston! But if the potholes don’t get cha’, the corrosion certainly will!

Not having been there, but I've seen photo reports of interesting stretches in northern Michigan, the Upper Peninsula, especially. Also northern Minnesota, the Iron Range especially, but the mineral content in the mud there calls for vigorous washing, especially on the undercarriage.
No offense. We heard for years Upper Peninsulam MI is "the best" for off-road, motorcycling, scenery, etc. Very scarce on hotels, restaurants, gas. Too nutty-crunchy and snooty for us. Quite a disappointment last fall. One and done. Don't dismiss Middle and Eastern Tn. Not close to all the huge national parks, but numerous lakes, waterfalls, winding roads, forestry trails, GSMtn National Park. Once you make your must-have list, you may find it checks all the boxes. We did.

So are you referring to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan as Snootie? Lol. I spent some years there in the military and they’re definitely not snooty up there just locked in most of the year and they drink a lot of beer and sit in the sauna three times a day.

Yeah, that's what I look for when off road mall crawling. Hate camping, trails, and no people?

Don't know how you found them nutty crunchy snooty with no hotels, restaurants, or gas. What'd you do; ask for ketchup with your pasty? :ROFLMAO:

I currently live in Wisconsin. The off road opportunities are few here. I travel with the wife once, maybe twice a year west for Moab, Ouray or other ‘real’ jeep trails. We have been on quite a few BOH trails along with other greats but our truth is maybe 90% mall crawling. It’s not our fault rather an access issue. We hope to cure this with a move west in the near future. Looking at Grand Junction, CO. Maybe Montrose.

Any suggestions on where to move west for great wheeling access, please I’m open ears.

Step 2: Come to organized trail rides.
Step 3: Get fresh pinstriping and break the flares on the Raptor on tight wooded trails. 😁

Yeah, we're being overrun with the good folks from Illi-noise over here, just to the east of Chi-Raq.
You can spot them living in the fast lane ... going slowly. HA!!

I haven't heard much lately about those handful of counties that want to secede from Illinios to become Hoosiers. LOL!
Yeah, we have to go way nort to dodge our naybors....I knew the world was going to hell when WI drivers began driving like Ill Annoyans....Go Pack Go.

Ditto on the youper stuff (and northern MN), also lots by Devil's Lake, and Wyalusing/Prairie du Chien area. I can only think if I looked more, there'd be lot's more, too! I'd think there'd be lots in Ashland County if you're up for the trip (not sure where in WI you are), but I think there's lots in WI & area if you look...

I don't know what parts of the UP you visited but snooty has never been a part of any of our many adventures there. We love the UP. Just made a loop around Lake Michigan in October while stopping in Door County, WI on our way up and around the UP before heading back down into the lower pen. You are correct that the UP is quite remote and that is what makes it so awesome along with the people there.
We love TN too for the record as well as all the things in the mountain/desert west. So many amazing places. We were just looking into short trips into Arkansas and Georgia over the weekend for this spring. Just have to understand the local culture everywhere you go. Living in TN I'm sure you can appreciate that.

I used to live in Evergreen Co, beautiful place, BUT the western slope and southern part of the state are HOT in the summer. Be prepared for a huge cost of living increase too. Colorado can't raise taxes without a vote so they charge fee's for everything instead, including hefty sales tax. $1500/yr to reg my car (I counted 28 different fee's).... $900/yr for my tent camper ( $15 in Wi ) $60 for a fishing license etc......
Hey, another former Evergreen resident LOL!
I lived in and around the Western slope of CO for years but the cost of living drove me away. However, I never ran out of cool places to offroad, the state is a goldmine (ha) of wheeling trails.

I lived a decade along the Front Range, mainly in and around Fort Collins. That was the late 90s and early 2000s though. It was a nice time to be there, not overcrowded, lots of off-road opportunities, EBs were still a few thousand dollars. Interesting collection of people. Then big spenders arrived and kind of ruined things (as they did with EBs).

Before I left, gates were going up on many trails, and it got to the point you might drive a few hours to hit a trail, only to find the gate locked for one reason or another. So glad I lived out there earlier, having visited a few years ago it's kind of true, you can't go home again. Still a lot off off-roading, but is it true you now need a permit or something?

I was also there in the late 90s and early 2000s, small world. I was back there with my son on our way to the Moab OffRoadeo last summer and hit a few old favorite trails (Waldorf wagon trail, Saxon mountain, Cascade creek, etc) and if I needed a permit, I didn't know about it
