Hey Guys!

Nick here again with some VERY exciting news that we wanted to share! We didn't waste any time digging into our Bronco and are already well underway into our performance intercooler development! Make sure that you head over to our engineering blog for the full scoop!

HIGH ROAD – 2021+ FORD BRONCO 2.3L/2.7L PERFORMANCE INTERCOOLER R&D, PART 1 – STOCK REVIEW AND DESIGN PLANS

NLT_9487-1-scaled.jpg

Ford’s latest iteration of the Bronco is designed for the high road. Ford sidelined its purpose-built off-road machine for quite some time but wanted to ensure that the return of such a legendary model would tackle the wilderness with ease and better than the stiff competition. Ford put mountains of thought and engineering into the modern Broncos to earn the true meaning of G.O.A.T. mode. Even after the extended time spent engineering the Bronco’s return, a few aspects could leave the Bronco in the dust, precisely when it comes to the intercooling system. Lucky for you, though, we’re already on the case to ensure that your 2.3L or 2.7L’s charged air temperatures are properly managed for true off-road domination.

....

The biggest mark against the Bronco’s intercooler is the mounting location. In theory, Ford’s placement is ideal for maximum performance since it’s located front and center on the vehicle with a dedicated port for airflow. However, given the rugged nature of this platform, winches and other off-roading necessities are also dancing through owners’ minds. The trouble is, most of these accessories would block much-needed airflow through the intercooler, so we’re going to move it.
NLT_3004-scaled.jpg

Ford utilized the same intercooler for both the 2.7L and the 2.3L engine options. While the 2.3L is a heavy-hitting engine, two turbos are going to push more air through the system. This intercooler design splits the difference and provides adequate daily driving cooling for each engine, but will more than likely heat soak, and become a bottleneck for those demanding more from their EcoBoost engines.
Make sure that you head to the engineering blog to get a peek at what we have planned for the Bronco's intercooling system! As always, don't hesitate to reach out with any questions that you might have

Absolutely! At this stage we're planning for fitment across both the 2.3L and 2.7L for this intercooler

would this be a direct swap? no tune, no cutting, just improved cooling and air flow?

Yes, I saw. Just mentioning.

Like mentioned on the blog, not looking forward to a permanent modification of the intake flaps but somewhat understandable to make a quality product.

@Mishimoto do the actual grill designs across trims create an issue, in other words, is one grill better than another for the intercooler once it's moved? Badlands grill here and don't mind switching if have to.

Grill difference is not going to matter as an IC behind the grill will have a much bigger surface area. I bet the surface area will easily double.

Raptor guys that run their trucks in the dessert have ICs behind the grill.

Love it. Can’t wait. Factory IC placement is terrible.

Currently, our plan is to make this as a direct bolt-on as possible. As mentioned in the blog, you will have to fully remove your grill shutter system to fit the new design, but that's to clear room for the intercooler and to refrain from gutting that entire component.

No tuning required either, but you'll be improving this platform further and making it much more suited for a performance tune

The grille style shouldn't make much of a difference since both styles are pretty open already. Our design is going to greatly increase the external fin surface area and core volume while moving it into a better location which will make a huge difference.

This will definitely be on my to do list. All these aftermarket bumpers block all the air flow and was hoping a company would come out with something soon.

This is the best mod bang for the $ and gets rid of the stupid AGS. The factory IC from Ford plain sucks. Instantly drop your IAC temps specially in hotter climates.
