The idea was to stay at home this NYE. But I got a last minute call from a buddy, and with not a lot of arm twisting, we were on the road to Tahoe from LA. A little bonus for the trip, I'de just installed the Procal tune and was anxious to see how it performed on the long haul.
This trip we packed light, decided not to camp since it was in Tahoe. I did pack recovery gear hoping I could find some easy trails to enjoy the views.
Weather was pretty good, we did get some light snow in Mammoth on the way up.
Driving some of the BLM trails near Bishop. Using Gaia to find the trails.
Crowley Lake
It's very cold but I insist we drive with the top open. Heater and butt warmers putting in the work.
From there we make our way through Mammoth for a quick lunch and it starts to lightly snow. I get excited cause I'm from LA and we never get snow.
Then back down the hill to Mono Lake, here we took a little snack break.

We get to Tahoe at Sunset. Scrambled around to find a hotel and after 10-12 phone calls we land at the Holiday inn in South Tahoe.
After a really good Italian dinner, we hit the sack anticipating a long day touring the Lake.
Hit the road early to enjoy the sights, while trying to gain access to any trail I could find on Gaia maps around the lake to get nice view high up.
That's when I saw signs pointing to the famed Rubicon trail
Staging area. So here we had to decide if we were actually going to run some of the trail or not. I've never run a snow trail and we didn't see anyone coming in our out of the trail at all. So we aired down and figured we'd go as far as I felt comfortable. Which wasn't very far.
We made our way in and about half way to McKinney Lake, I chickened out and turned back. But not before snapping a few insta gram photos lmaoo.
I felt the slippin' and a slidin' around on some of the rocks and just decided it probably wasn't gonna end well for me if I continued . We turned back and drove around the rest of the lake admiring these two labs playing fetch in the frigid waters.
We celebrated NYE with a nice dinner and some not so successful time in the casino. My dream of winning enough to lift the bronco with 74weld products was dashed
Next morning we left Tahoe early and took the scenic route around Grant lake and June Lake, all incredibly beautiful.
Also took the scenic loop to Mammoth heading south and found some offshoot trails to horse around on.
That concludes the 2023 year for me. It's been a heck of a year, filled with adventures, new friends and some unbelievable views. Sharing these trips and photos with this community has also been a highlight. The encouragement and kind words keep me coming back for more. So I salute you 6g members. Cheers.
Bonus: The pro cal tune I got the week before has been a really nice addition the 2.7. Low end power is where this tune shines and I like it, shoulda come with the truck On long road trips the pickup on passing is also nice. Didn't take a look at mpg, and never found 93 to fill up either
