Ok "genious".........you take the doors off the Bronco, and then what? You stack the doors around the bush to take a shit!? That seems to be a lot of work (especially if you had a lunch in the Mexican restaurant before you hit the trail,....you'll be taking them doors off many times!!).
Well maybe they didn't consider the Taco Bell scenario.

Taco Bell is almost dietary. There is that one Mexican joint called "Ay Caramba!!". Trust me,....you'll say "ay caramba" MANY times after. Oh,.....definitely don't go to church after you had breakfast there. No,....don't ask. I'm trying not to offend.

All these posts gave me an entrepreneurial idea! I REALLY don't want to work, but maybe someone out there needs more money, and this would work splendidly. Buy a small trailer, load a Port-a-Potty, and go to ANY off-road trail. Park at the trail head and charge five bucks to use it! I bet most of the women on the trail would use it! It's a shitty business, but it could be lucrative. As a side hustle you can offer fresh figs, and chilled mineral water after/during/before the hike/off-road event,....whatever. This alone would quadruple your intake (figuratively AND literally speaking).

Don't ask me about the fresh figs and mineral water. My lips are sealed.

You know......now you got me intrigued! Please describe your average potty party with friends. I'm not sure I would like to participate (although I am very open minded). Just curious. My favorite party is Holy Trinity though.
On the rubicon I needed to potty, and there were two johns available. She said she would be right behind me. I get to the first one and...the conditions were not exactly favorable. Knowing she was behind me I did the honorable thing and moved to the next one and left the door wide open. She clearly decided the first option was a bit too low for her standards, and when she turned the corner, there I was! But instead of joining me she used her camera-glasses to snap a picture. It's a gem.

I also noticed at the beginning of that video I’m working on the black bronco. Which isn’t involved in the swap in any capacity beyond driving for parts. Wtf? 😂

My wife and I have a 2025 OBX. We are interested in getting into overlanding. We are not sure if our Bronco can handle it. We've been told that our bronco should be able to handle some basic offloading. We weren't sure about overlanding specifically.
Sarcasm aside, it depends on which youtuber you learned about 'overlanding' from and how you define 'overlanding'. My personal opinion, is that 'overlanding' is car camping with the vehicle as the main character. Honorable mention goes to the jetboil coffee maker.

I grew up in western Washington State. I watch a lot of those 'overlanding' videos that come out, mostly, because I miss the place I grew up. It's a beautiful area. I've seen several places in those videos that I used to go with my Dad when I was a kid. When we'd go out there, he'd have me lock in the hubs in case we needed 4wd, then we'd drive around in 2H. Very rarely, he'd go into 4H. the only time I remember him using 4L was trying to drag stuff short distances, and pull people out of ditches. We spent a lot of time tooling around out there in 2WD pickups because you just don't need 4wd to get to the places most of these guys are going. Hell, I have seen drone footage of a bridge I've been to many times, including in a buddy's '81-ish Ford Escort. (High Steel Bridge).

Can your stock Outer Banks get to those places with the gear you need to camp at those places? The ones I can recognize, your OB can get to for sure. Your OB can absolutely go to those places with the kit you NEED to camp. I used to go up there in a busted up 72' Jeep Wagoneer with my sleeping bag and a cooler full of soda and some hotdogs to cook over a fire roasting them on a stick. Then you can drive somewhere else and do it again. That's technically 'overlanding'. The hardest part of what they do is figuring out where they want to look for a camp site at.

Can your stock OB be the main character in a 4wd video? No. Do you have the skills for your OB to be the main character in a 4wd video like the kitted out Jeeps on 40s you see in videos? Since you're asking, I'd hazard to say also no. Can you carry around some rotopax and a name brand rooftop tent? As was suggested, you may need some suspension mods to carry the gear that you only think you need because the youtubers have it, yeah sure. You can do that. Do you need to carry that crap around? No.

EDIT: I see you are in TN. I highly recommend that you go to the OffRoadeo there in Maryville and see what a Bronco can do. Theirs are Sasquatch Broncos so they'll be a bit more capable than your Outer Banks, but it will give you a real idea of what kind of capabilities you have. My non-locked Big Bend could complete most of the course we took, I have no doubt. A couple of places required lockers, and I think my Big Bend could still have gone, if I as a driver had the skills to do so. That will help answer questions on whether or not your Outer Banks can do it. Or it may make you want to upgrade to a Badlands.

So since this post went down this road……

when “overlanding” I bring a 5 gal bucket, bag of kitty litter and a popup shower. Perfect portable out house.
🤷🏻‍♂️
I too like my privacy.

And here I thought 'overlanding' was car camping, but ya had to strap all your crap to the outside of the vehicle so others could pass judgement on just how bad-a$$ of an overlander you were by how much money you wasted on vehicle adornment choices...

If you just leave it hidden in the back of the bronco... you can't get likes and followers or acknowledgement... and what fun is that ?

I can answer that-no fun. It’s no fun at all.

People will have you believe that you need to "enhance" a stock Bronco to do any off road travel. That's not true. When I was in my teens we did a lot with old Fords and Chevys or 2wd pickups. You just need to pay attention to what you're doing. Around 1995 I took my 1986 Toyota MR2 up the forest service road to the top of Mt, Eldon outside Flagstaff (I'd been up the road before). More recently I was poking around along the AZ, Mexico border (San Rafael Valley) with my WRX (AWD but not much ground clearance).

My point is. Do your homework. Learn how to drive what you have and don't try to drive anywhere you're not comfortable driving.

There's an Overland Expo in Arrington, VA in October. Highly recommend. I've seen people who have used a VW van to drive from Alaska to the tip of South America. But they did their homework first.

One observation. What we call overlanding in the US, people call driving from town to town in third world countries.

First, change over-landing into adventuring.
As many have said, do some homework, start exploring, which will lead to learning and adapting.
maybe you aren’t meant to spend a week wandering a state running a BDR https://ridebdr.com/routes-overview/

Maybe you are destined for shorter adventures, like Rimrocker Trail
https://rimrockertrail.org/important-travel-info/

or just wandering around looking for amazing trips and views.
