The magnet does not hold them well. Thus I use the clamp mounts.
Oh got you! I thought you meant like the phone doesn't work well while on the magnet or something. Yeah I always use a case with one of the metal pieces stuck to the back. Yeah when I've just tried to use a magnet with the phone by itself they slide around.

I use a case from zeera wireless on my iphone 12 mini that increases the magnetic hold for the phone:

https://zeerawireless.com/

I purchased this iphone holder for the Bronco from Course:

https://coursemotorsports.com/colle...ducts/direct-fit-phone-mount-ford-bronco-2021

Might be overkill for you since it wirelessly charges my phone (not sure if they have other options), but is quite secure and mostly out of the way, and the bracket is really well designed and integrates into the Bronco build plate mounting seemlessly. Also it's a little expensive but am very happy with it.

Best phone mount I've had for any car. Also have their tailgate fire extinguisher - the best extinguisher I've had also. Nice stuff, not the cheapest.

I got their other one, that mounts under the name plate in from of the console. I was tempted by that one, but my SO uses purses with very short straps, and that grab handle is the perfect place for her to hang them!

I use a trackform ball mount and arm on center grab handle for my handheld radio but would be fine for a phone too… have my phone on a trackform arm on the dash but I feel the the Smaller 7/8” ball allows a little too much slop with the longer arm…

For me I don't like to have my phone just rattling around while it's plugged in, it's really bad for the charging port. So normally when I have it on the lower Mount is when it's plugged in. And onX doesn't work well for me on the screen so I put it on the higher amount when I'm off road and need to use the map. I also have the smaller 8-in screen on the infotainment system and it's not always user friendly, and may lock up every now and then. I'd rather have my phone set up in a good way in case I need to use it.
I get the bouncing around part. Part of why I say the Bronco console is poor. I can’t even figure out a good place to mount one. Only owned the Bronco for 2 1/2 years.

A third option would be to throw a full molle panel at the passenger foot well
https://mountains2metal.com/BR6CCPM/
And a holster-style mount for the phone (there are dozens, just one for illustration)
https://www.amazon.com/IDOGEAR-Tactical-Universal-Smartphone-Compatible/dp/B0C8J1YPC8
There's a lot of great options here. Thanks everyone for sharing.

I very nearly bought the Course mount recommended by several of you - it looks great. Fit right where I was thinking, two mount points, and, of course, a lot of your recommendations to back it up.

I also very nearly bought the ProClip - the mounting location there is perfect, the price about the same as the Course. Non-adjustable, but it looks like it's in the "right" spot anyway, so nothing to loosen on the trail either. Several of you pointed to this one as well.

In the end, though, planning on leaving the phone in the Bronco full time, I decided I wanted something a bit more low key so as to not invite trouble. And @Area51BS had a very good point - I do not need the screen to be accessible while driving. So I decided to go the molle panel route in the quote above. Hopefully it proves a bit more versatile and I can mount other stuff there (not exactly sure what yet, but if you build it...). I already have the M2M rear cargo area molle panels and they are great, so looking forward to seeing how this one does.

The phone holster is a bit chitzy, but I wanted something I could stick the phone in upside down, with the cable plugged in - and this one was the first one I saw. Most phone holsters cover the entire thing up and I'd have to figure something out for the charging cable.

With shipping, I ended up about $40 over the Course/ProClip solutions. I guess the good thing is this doesn't prevent me from adding either of those as well in the future if I decide to eventually go that route.

Will circle back and let you know how it turned out once I get everything in.

I bought a mount made by a member here. @ArtHughes. The thing is sweet. Has a standard 1” ball mount and is solid as a rock even with an iPad on it. It mounts under the console grab handle. He had a thread here on it somewhere but can’t find it. I did snag pics from the thread back from when I contacted him about it.

Not sure if he is still printing them but I love the mount.

Edit: I should add, it was just the mounting plate I got, I already had the arm and phone cradle.

I'm really glad you are enjoying it Tony. I've been really happy with mine as well. I added a carbon fiber backing plate to mine as well for a handset mount for the midland radio i installed. Its all been working great.

I have this one and it is awesome. Very sturdy. With short usb cord going over the back of the steering column, works perfect. Out of the way of viewing and can adjust it to keep out of the way of the airbag and vent as needed.

This is the one I use also. Absolutely love it
I have the same in our Bronco as well. Also had their mount in my 07 Denali. Excellent products, worth the price.

I used this mount with the RAM mount to hold the phone. It is supper secure and out of the way.
Definitely the best solution for me.
