SSM 50660 - 2022 Bronco – Rusted Fasteners On Exterior Bodyside Grab Handle – Built On 01-Feb-2022 And Through 10-Mar-2022
Some 2022 Bronco vehicles built on 01-Feb-2022 and through 10-Mar-2022 may exhibit rusted fasteners on the exterior bodyside grab handle/fender anchor point (base part number 9920038). This may be due to a lack of protective e-coating applied to the bolts during the manufacturing process. Replacement of the exterior bodyside grab handle will be required. Due to the sudden high demand for these grab handles, service stock has been depleted. Ford is actively working to obtain more exterior bodyside grab handles/fender anchor points to meet the increase indemand and, in parallel, release the affected fasteners as a serviceable end-item. Monitor OASIS for updates.

Are these the trail sights?

For the life of me I can't think of a "an exterior" grab handle on the Bronco.

Edit: Found the part in the parts catalog. It is the trail sights, they're listed as Handle Assist in the catalog. Very odd nomenclature for the part, but I guess they had to call it something internally.

It has to do with the releasing of the parts in the Worldwide system.

If you were replacing them yourself, that would probably be the most efficient solution, but Ford probably receives them from the supplier as modules, and if they are defective, it’s probably easier to just replace the modules.

I understand it’s under warranty my point is there’s nothing wrong with the handle itself just send people the new bolts why replace the handle too

I’m in the trucking industry and it’s the same way with truck parts they make you buy a whole big piece just to get the 2 bolts you need

The bolts are not serviced separately from the assembly. It makes no sense to me but like Razorbak86 said, Ford purchases it this way from the supplier. In most cases Ford gets the warranty expense $$ back out of them so it's not like Ford is out much if any $$.

Warranty cost on these is about $112.32 ea and labor will likely be a couple tenths. Just say the whole thing will cost around $250ish.

Exactly. To top it all off, you can't find bolts in this exact size. I'll just be soaking mine in vinegar then spray with rustoleum. Dimensions if anyone cares...

I found a rusty bolt too but on the cowl. Also see there is a gap here between the 2 cowl pieces. Just picked it up on Saturday and that particular dealer is 2 hours away.

Why? Ford will replace them under warranty.
A few reasons;

1) Dealerships suck ass
2) Will take weeks to acquire new bolts (I'll still request some anyway)
3) What guarantee can Ford give me that the replacement bolts won't have the same exact problem?

If Ford didn't make these in a ridiculous custom size, I would have already replaced them with 316SS.
