I don't know that I would be posting a story all over the internet about going mudding with my wife and finding out that my knob wasn't big enough.

Looks like it was fun. I never go mudding without friends. Back when the biggest tires were 30’s or 31’s, it wasn’t an issue normally with some speed. When people started wheeling with 33’s and 35’s, you needed to get big boys or have friends to get out of the ruts made by those with big shoes.

I remember my brother burying his Wagoneer up to the frame. Took three of us to get’m out. The yankum ropes are way better now compared to the snatchum straps back then. A good yankum rope would have gotten you out I think. The energy they can create is crazy.

Looks like a whole lotta fun, until you got stuck. We’re you over off of SH-99 going toward Humble? I know that area is pretty marshy, but fun to go off-roading in. Your Bronco looks tough.

Tell me you lowered your tire(s) air pressure to 15-20 psi, otherwise you are always going to get stuck

Note how much wider Jeeps tires are than Broncos. That little surface area really helps with proper inflation pressures.

I used to go mudding when I was younger, but now I avoid mud whenever possible. It gets everywhere, is hard to get totally cleaned out, and is just a PITA. However, I used to be a big duck hunter and hunted marshy areas and flooded timber. As part of my kit, I carried a Danforth anchor to hook the winch to if I ever got stuck. It was very effective and saved my ass many times...

If you're high centered on the differentials lockers won't make a bit of difference since the tires are off the ground

I have been pulled out by a Toyota Land Cruiser- a couple of times when wheeling in my 1971 Bronco. The Bronco was my very first vehicle, I pretty much learned to drive and 4 wheel on it. Went 4 wheeling almost every weekend. The Bronco had the 170 Cubic inch straight six, 3 speed manual, stock with street tires. My cousin had a stock Land Cruiser 4 speed manual with stock snow tires. I then upgraded to another Bronco- my second vehicle in my life- a 1970- with a modified 302- Edlebrock manifold, cam, Holley 4 barrel, headers and dual side exhaust. Of course 3 speed manual. 3 inch lift and 32" Tru-Trac tires. That thing was mean. My buddy had a 1971 K5 Blazer, 33" mud terrains- 350, automatic. We went 4 wheeling everywhere. I end up always going where he could not. He would get stuck, I never once got stuck in that Bronco. He hated it LOL as it was just superior to his K5. This was in the mid-late 70's. What a time to get into 4 X 4s- we had a blast!

I would never have known the Bronco would have such a history- and here it is now 2021/2022 with a new retro Bronco. And those old Broncos are now classics and worth a fortune. I feel so lucky to 4 wheel back then and now today- in Broncos! (Well, still waiting- I have a 2022 coming in Jan).
