You can run a smaller fridge since there is no ice taking up space. I love my ARB 37 quart, but also had a 50 quart before. Prices have increased to around $1K now, I paid $699 for the 50 quart in 2016 and $736 for the 37 quart in 2019. They have the same mechanicals but the larger one is just taller. In the AZ desert in a 160+ degree vehicle interior the 37 quart kept the top layer cooler than the taller 50 quart. That's why I bought a Grizzly (two, actually) and it was $250 when I bought it. Now, it's going for $340! I think it may be direct from manufacturer on Amazon now? Iowa Rotoplastics. When it was still Amazon selling it from 2017 to 2019 the price was $250 and a deal for a 60 quart. I have used it all over, mostly for hunting, and they've survived everything I could've asked out of them for 6 years and still kept ice cold all 3 days in the Florida Keys this year.
Maybe at $340 I would consider a fridge but... 63qt ARB is $1650. I think I'd have to do some financial calculations and just get a smaller Grizzly and a cheapo Styrofoam for drinks and other things that don't need to be cold but are nice to have cold.
I think my breakdown point would be four days plus without any civilization/resupply before my wife would want a fridge, she cooks. I wouldn't get one for myself unless they were cheaper than the Grizzly and even then... I'm fine with MREs. and water. Well, minus the veggie omelet, IYKYK!
*I don't hate on anyone for their choice, just my reasons.
I have an Engel 85 quart roto molded cooler to use on my boat or on trips if I want to bring shellfish up to Vermont. I was able to get it on promo for half price ($200), otherwise I would’ve purchased an Orca that is made in USA. Our last trip to VT we used both the fridge and the cooler to bring about 80 pounds of farm fresh meat back to stock the freezer.
