When my 23" Wildtrak gets here that will be my "fuel efficient" car (y) my daily driver right now is my 2021 Shelby gt500
You prolly got a gas guzzler tax then?
The ‘23 GT500 in the showroom where I bought our Wildtrack had one for $2500. This thread is definitely not your concern. Lol.

^This.

I have a log book in every vehicle I own. Data from every time I fuel is entered into the log book, then every so often I enter the data into an Excel spreadsheet which calculates actual mpg. So I can tell you for a certainty that my 2016 F150 3.5 Ecoboost, bought new, averaged 20.5 mpg. That's for 68,366 miles of driving; I poured 3335.3 gallons of gas through it for a total fuel cost of $10,324.68!

What would you have done if you got 20.1 mpg? 21.1? I'm anal retentive but think you just took it to a whole new level! OK, maybe it is a business truck and you like being honest on your taxes?

I used to use log book and spreadsheet but I switched to the aCar app. You could also use Fuely or something similar. Way easier. And if you still want to crunch your own numbers you can export the data.

While I'm not as OCD as Yamahamer on fuel mileage, I believe the only way to know the actual mileage is by dividing the number of miles driven by the amount of fuel used. I will usually use my trip 1 as my mileage calculator and figure the mileage at each fill up then reset for the next tank. I use trip 2 for oil change mileage. I have only had one out of ten vehicles give me consistent average mpg within 2% of actual (2011 F250), the rest have been anywhere from 7-12% high. Note that I use a percentage it is off not a number of mpg as that will vary. Living in the PNW, we have a lot of traffic, hills, and wind which all factor into MPG. I have noticed that as I've aged, my MPG figures have been consistently higher. In the end, if you are worried about MPG and fuel costs, a Bronco is not a good choice. I calculate my mileage to assist me in noticing mechanical issues. If I normally get 17 MPG and it drops to 12 on a tank with no significant changes in driving (towing, mountains, traffic, etc.) then something may be wrong with my vehicle.

Definitely useful for diagnosing problems for a single vehicle, but not useful for comparing it to other vehicles - or even trying to figure out what your running costs will be.

Nope, I'm just a data NERD. Doesn't matter what the actual mileage works out to...but I want to know that the information is ACCURATE. Not what the dash display shows, or a wild guess with no data to back it up.

I could post this pic of my dash display and say this is what my truck get for mpg. But is it the true mpg???
Ford Bronco So, I took my own advice!! mileage 9-15-22

I could do that. But the log book is used to log everything, not just fuel fillups. Oil changes, tire rotations, even a windshield wiper change, everything is logged. I tend to keep my vehicles for a long time (drove a GMC Terravan for 32 years!) and having all that data is extremely helpful at times. No guessing as to when a repair or maintenance item was done.

I'm the same way. :) You can keep all of those records in aCar.
Mainly I'm putting this out there as on option for others. Not trying to change your mind.

Recently, A WildTrack owner posted he was only averaging 12.8 MPG. I offered the following post:

“I would recommend trying this:

1) Find a highway that you can drive a constant speed on without bothering the other drivers. The road should be as flat as possible with shallow turns. No headwind and ambient temperatures between 50 and 80 degrees F.

2) Gently accelerate to 50 to 55 MPH. Hold that speed with your cruise control for a minute.

3) Reset your trip odometer on the fly. Watch the MPG display on the odometer until it is steady….perhaps a couple of miles or more while remaining on cruise control at the same speed without touching the accelerator or brakes.

4) This should be the MAXIMUM MPG that your vehicle is capable of. I’m guessing it should be around 22 MPG if not higher.

5) If it’s significantly less, like 15 or 16 MPG you have a mechanical problem. If it is around 22 or higher you have a driving skills problem.

Edit: Should be done in the final drive gear”

SO YESTERDAY, I TRIED IT!

2022 Badlands, Sasquatch, MIC, 2.7L. Driving down US HWY 290 in Houston (concrete “freeway” and fairly flat) at 65 MPH on cruise control, air conditioning off and outside temperature at around 65. No significant wind. No roof rack. Altitude about 50 feet above sea level.

Reset the Trip 1 MPG (on the fly) and it almost instantly hovered around 28 MPG! I have checked this MPG ”reading” and have found it to be about 1.5 MPG high. So, I was getting around 26.5 MPG at constant speed. I continued this for about 5 miles. The only significant differences were going over the overpasses. But still returned to around 28 MPG.

Theoretically, all Broncos should be getting this kind of constant speed MPG (+ or -) since it represents the energy required to push that weight and shape through the wind, plus the mechanical drive train inefficiencies.. Things that might make a noticeable difference are roof racks, soft tops, and tires (smaller or bigger). I’m guessing that there won’t be much of a difference in this value between either the 2.7L or the 2.3L engine.

So, if you think your crappy MPG is a vehicle problem and not a function of your driving technique, try this and post your results.

I’M CURIOUS…..
I was that wildtrak owner 🤠 regarding getting the 12 MPG. I feel so special now 🤭

the computer seems to overly penalize for idle time
Burning fuel without moving? That's known as 0 MPG. Of course it will drag the average down.

I used to track with Fuelly but just quit, it wasn't worth being a slave to it. I know the meter lies but if that's your data point and you used to get 21 and you get 18 now then you have either gone ape on the throttle, traffic patterns changed, or you have a problem.

I can leave for work at 4am and get 3-4mpg better than leaving at 6. If I leave work at 3 I can get 1-2 better than at 5.

If you aren't sacrificing other necessities for gas, who cares other than the potential troubleshooting aspect?

I did one better in my Mustang GT. I sped up to a healthy number, hit reset on the lie-o-meter, and coasted... 99 MPG!!! All Mustangs should be getting that mpg or the driver sucks.
I did the same thing with my Fusion 999.9 MPG. and they say we need Electric cars. considering i literally just traded the fusion for a Wildtrak this week. hahah.

Oddly enough when my wife drives the Raptor MPGs drop. A full tank estimates about 288 miles. But when I drive it and fill it up it will read 318 estimated miles. That means about 13MPGs for the wife, 15MPGs for me. It’s all about driving habits.
Wife drives? She a lead foot is she? 🥰

Pictures or it didn’t happen, meaning if you don’t post a pic of the lovely lead foot misses, you’re single, in mom’s basement, and split screening Bronco6G and Pornhub!

Yo ass ain’t foolin me. Naw Sir! :ROFLMAO:
